I just found out that Mayfield got 2 big linemen who started at Ballard Memorial last year. I believe they played in the Mayfield elementary system, then moved to Ballard and have now moved back to Mayfield. I'm not sure how good they are, but, considering the OL is one of Mayfields biggest question marks, it sure doesn't hurt to bring in a couple of kids with varsity experience and if I recall, Ballard had a pretty good offense last year, just little defense to go with it. Anyone know anything about these 2? Are they brothers? Size, year they're in? Are they projected to start?

I can remember a couple of kids from back in the mid 70's that transferred to Mayfield from Reidland, David and Danny Fisher and they were good, solid players. I can't remember any since then until last year and now it's like a swarm of em.. Last year, they added 3 or 4 kids from Graves Co, which has nothing to do with geographic hardship, because Mayfield and Graves are about 1 mile from each other and they changed to the open enrollment, so, kids could choose to go to either. Then there was the Peyton kid last year who came in from Arkansas. He also has a little brother on this yrs team. Then the QB from Ga this year along with the 2 linemen from Ballard Memorial. Am I missing anyone? That's like 8 in the past 2 years just off the top of my head and I may be missing a few.. It's pretty strange, to say the least. I don't know the stories on the Peytons, the QB from Ga or the 2 Ballard linemen, so, I can't say what brought them to Mayfield.

I think the coaches started advertising that we would have jobs for any parent that has a talented football player :sssh: :lol:

 

After years of actually having more kids move away than in after several large plant closing we are now seeing the winds of change though I know our job market is soft like it is all over KY. Look at the kids we have lost over the last few years who went on to have huge HS careers like Ford, Nall, the Hastings kid who now starts for Boyle County just to name a few. We also were losing kids to Graves until recently. Atleast for now that has stopped and geewhiz what do ya know, our football program is back to where it use to be.

 

Of the transfers I only see a couple of them having any immediate playtime. Stu Mills will see the field from Graves and possibly Kendall from Graves but both will only be sophmores. The other Graves kids are also sophmores and will not see PT. The Hughes kid from Georgia will see some playtime, he is to good of an athlete not to. The Ballard boys will not play right away. One of the Ballard kids will likely see some PT a few weeks into the season but not at the begining. The other I don't think will see much PT this year.

TP, you "stirring the proverbial pot"? I love it . Mayfield has certainly earned it.

 

IMO free Beechwood "mind reading" will be available quite often this season. At least until they travel to Mayfield in late November. Hopefully this season it will at least be a game and not another pounding but Beechwood just can't get over that Cardinal "hump"!

 

Bw returns everyone and then some so I'm guessing they are not real worried about the young upstart Cardinals from out in the wild wild west. Isn't the kid from Georgia the son of a pastor that took a church in Mayfield? The kids from Ballard relocated, I think, because of some dissatisfaction with the Ballard school system.

And the rich get richer. Sounds like Mayfield is well on their way to a repeat.

Mayfield will be right there all year long.. I have to believe there offense will take a step backward, not because I don't think they'll be good, but, because last years offense was the best in it's storied history. Guhy was a 3+ yr starter at QB, Richardson was a 3 yr starter at WR, the OL was Sr dominated, etc.. They have a few more question marks this year, but, they don't lack for big play playmakers in Higginson, D.Jackson, Ross and of course, Jonathan Jackson and they certainly have some talent in the younger ranks that'll be solid stepping in, like Mills & Kendall, so, they should still be okay, especially once the OL gets some games under there belts.. I do think the defense will be very, very good with everything they have returning and the prospective replacements actually being a little bigger and faster in the secondary. This unit will be the staple of the team for sure, but, dont be surprised if the offense doesn't still put up 35-40 a game. They'll certainly be a tough opponent for any and all 1a teams...
