The way the GOP uses it as a weapon...

Some no doubt do this. Many others, I believe, have firm convictions. I'm thinking in particular of Norm Coleman from Minnesota.

I hate how a lot of politicians change their stance on the issue when seeking a specific office. For example, Al Gore was a pro-life for quite some time, until he sought higher office within the Democratic Party. Then, all of a sudden, he's a champion for "choice." On the flip side there's Mitt Romney, who was pro-abortion when running for Governor of a predominantly liberal state; and then when he realized he might seek a higher office on a national level, he's pro-life.

I voted other, and would expand upon this. I just find it completely ridiculous that this is such a political issue by intractable people on both sides when there are so many more important things we should be focusing on as a country.

I am not in favor of it except for in health risk to the mother, and wish would-be abortion candidates to consider other options. I guess deep in my Catholic recesses I feel it's wrong, but I don't feel I have the right to stand back and condemn. Frankly, the world is grossly overpopulated anyway. I wonder what kind of Hell on Earth this would be if all those extra people were here (the mis-named "Pro-Lifers" don't really address this problem, conveniently enough). I'm more concerned about the ones who are already here and suffering.

Kinda makes me want to know why you think any of us should be here, or what qualifications must we have to justify our existence?

Well, first you need to prove you hate mainstream music. :D

Classic.

Nice, RM.

I have no answer to either of those queries, and frankly, I don't know how anybody else can either. Dumb luck's the best I got.

We don't live in a random universe. Everything happens -- and everyone is born -- for a reason.

I have always felt this way, JS. To me it is a personal issue (that does not mean I am pro-choice, necessarily) which is often times a huge barometer for politics.

I agree with Birdie... I do not view God as some cosmic watchmaker who constructed a universe of incomprehensible complexity, wound it, set it in motion and then retired to occasionally glance at it to see what time it is. I sincerely believe He is far more involved and interested in us and our existence than we can imagine.

I'm probably closer to Alabama Larry in my feelings about abortion and the sanctity of each and every human life. I believe the Bible is very clear on this, and we amend and tamper with it to our own demise.

I am 100% in favor of a woman’s right to choose… I just happen to believe it should occur prior to conception rather than after conception. :thumb:

So true, Fastbreak. Creation is not a finished product. If it were, we would live in a perfect world, without sin. Instead, it is a process, stretched out over the bredth of time, in which God is bringing order out of chaos, and sanctity out of sin. This is part of the reason that bad things appear to happen at random, and sometimes to whom we consider good people. Just as our bodies fade away as our souls (hopefully) journey toward perfection in Christ, so is the world fading away (but not next Tuesday) and will be replaced by the Kingdom of God.

I hope this made sense.

Yes, it did^^. I have used this statement a lot on here and other places, it just seems to fit...."Man changes things, God has never changed".

This is definitely one of those issues in which I basically straddle the fence. As a social moderate, it's difficult to pick a side. I definitely understand the "innocent life" argument whether it's from a religious perspective or secular perspective. However, I also find credence with the choice/rape/incest argument. Whatever the case may be, it's not my job to pass judgment.

If you go back to a time before Roe vs Wade most states did allow abortions under the conditions of mother's health, rape or incest. But in Roe vs Wade, she wanted to use abortion as a form of birth control.

I know many in both camps who accept abortion under the banner of “a woman’s right to choose”. There are persuasive arguments for intervention in cases of rape, incest, the mother’s health, and potentially debilitating disease or handicaps for the child. But even the most liberal interpretation of these does not comprise more than 4% of all abortions performed in the United States. Over 95% of the 50 million abortions performed in the U.S. since the passage of Roe vs. Wade in 1972 have been for little more than convenience as a form of post-conception birth control. That’s 47 million American children killed for little more than the convenience or social standing of the parents. That’s 47 million children unable to learn and grow and work and pay taxes to offset the burden of the now retiring Baby Boomers. That’s 47 million innocent lives snuffed out for no crime on their part whatsoever. And I can’t help but believe that we, as a people, are facing a stern judgment for allowing this murderous spree of innocents to occur.

Love that. :thumb: Might have to borrow it sometime.

I've never heard any family claim as children any pregnancy that resulted in a miscarriage.

Why?
