May 30, 201115 yr Its about respect, someone does this to an officer and a minute later they get T-Boned at a red light...they flipped the officer off, but now they need him. And the officer maybe has to save his life. When was the last time you flipped anyone off? I was 17 at a ball game where the center fielder told me to try for second and did me first. It was a church game.
May 30, 201115 yr I am not saying there are not abuses of power with some officers. That is prevalent in all facets of life. However, police officers are in a pretty helpless position. I can somewhat empathize having worked in government. No matter how the officer approaches a scene, many are naturally just going to be ticked off because they are being told they have done something wrong. It does not matter how nice an officer (or other official) is, when you tell some person they were doing something incorrectly many's natural reaction is to get defensive. It has happened to me multiple times and I am nowhere near as authoritative as an officer is supposed to be.

It has happened to me a couple times. You have to try and brush it off, but if i am responding to a call and an individual at the place I am going throws up the bird, I can't help but think he is the one that is causing the trouble, and my mind is mostly made up before I talk to anybody. Police officers can not be harassed by state law, but we can get angry...I am a man trying to make a living just like everyone else. Ukmustangfan, you shouldn't have been going that fast in that place. It was right for the officer to pull you over, right for him to give you a ticket. As far as what he said to you, I won't comment. You have no idea what that cop just got finished doing. Maybe he just cleared up an accident where someone was killed in that same construction zone. Maybe he just arrested someone for beating on his wife and kids. Maybe he just had to tell someone there husband and/or father wasn't coming home because they were killed by a DUI driver. Madman, be careful following cops on the highway...we have rearview mirrors... And as far as cops abusing their power and all that...sure, some do. There are bad people in every profession there is. But it's not nearly as bad as it was in the 70's or 80's. It is a very small percentage, and you are way more unlikely to come across a "dirty" cop today than in years past.
May 30, 201115 yr When I was arrested inside my home in January, the police poured water on my laptop (ruined 2 USB ports), flipped my room over, and in the process tore my speaker wires out of my sound system (which had to be replaced). They also took between $200 and $300 out of my wallet and did not report it in the police report. All I can say is that they looked like they had done this sort of thing before... and all this was over some cannabis. That is why I do not like officers, because I cannot differentiate between the good and the bad when they are all in the same uniform doing the same things.

All police officers do not wear the same uniform, or do the same things for that matter. And there's always two sides to every story.

Don't break the law, and you won't have any problems. It sounds like they were searching your house for more drugs.

Him and another guy got arrested for PI. They pulled the money out of his wallet which was around 40 bucks and never gave it back. I guess those are the types where they think tip is included?:idunno: All that said though, I have met quite a few cool cops. My friends and I would switch off with the parties in high school and they would come to make sure things were not getting out of hand. They never broke it up. I have been pulled over twice in my life. The cops were not jerkish to me and they actually helped me out by not giving me a ticket (because they knew me ) I think there are far more cooler cops, at least where I grew up, then there are jerks.

Maybe they took it for a trafficking investigation? Maybe it was in your wallet and was taken at the jail for a booking fee? Either way, don't do illegal things and you won't wind up in those type situations.
