An officer may turn off their lights because they were either disregarded on the call OR other officers had arrived on the scene an advised it's no longer an emgency situation so they slow their response...and yelling curse words at a cop in front of a food establishment could be articulated as "disorderly conduct"...just saying.

I completely agree with what the Trooper told you . You were stupid , you were an idiot , you showed a clear disdain for the lives of the road construction workers . Those construction zones are clearly marked far enough ahead for you to have slowed to the posted safe speed .

 

It is completely unnecessary. You think a grown man or woman wants to be called that? Just give him the ticket, tell him to be careful and more observant.

If they have somewhere to be that requires them to ignore the stop light and other basic traffic laws, those rollers should be flashing at all times, not just long enough to get through the light.

I've been driving for 31 years. I've never seen an officer flip on his lights to get through a red light and then turn them off once through.

 

I've seen it probably two dozen times or more in my 40.

Guess we'll slot this one down under common STUPIDITY, but not every call that a law enforcement officer responds to is a "Lights and Sirens Call", some may require urgent attention, without attention being brought to the scene when they arrive, others, may not require either BUTTTT they still look at response time on a local, state, and federal level. But hey I guess you'd just be fine and dandy with the slowest response time to your sisters/moms/kids/ etc etc as long as they didn't roll through a stop light with their lights on then turn them off huh.......

Sometimes a little humiliation is just what the doctor ordered !

Really? Why then is it that I frequently struggle to keep up with cruisers on the interstate? That, or my favorite one: flash the lights so as to not have to wait on the red light, then turn them off after proceeding through.

 

I have great respect for law officers who do not abuse their power. Far too many do, however, and it has instilled in me a very jaded feeling toward the profession as a result.

So, it is okay to put the public in danger by ignoring traffic laws to respond to non-emergency situations faster?

 

I will try that logic the next time I get a ticket for a moving violation...

 

Officer: I clocked you going 90 in a 55, saw you run a red light, then you rolled thru a stop sign. What is the emergency?

 

Me: "Sorry officer, I have to be at this jobsite in a certain amount of time. You know...response time...

 

Officer: There is no excuse to put the public in that type of danger just for a response time...Now if it was life and death I might see it...Like rushing to the hospital or something...BUTTTT...Here is your ticket.

It's not rationalizing it at all. Cops abuse their power quite often. There's a very big difference between someone being rude or disrespectful and someone doing something that warrants an arrest or being detained.

 

I've been pulled over a couple times and avoided several tickets just for being polite and answering questions with "yes sir, no sir."

 

I've learned that if you're honest with the cop about whatever the situation is and show them respect, they are extremely lenient and show you the same respect. For example, I got pulled over on turkeyfoot one day for doing 65 in a 35 (when it was a 2 lane road). The cop asked why I was speeding. I told him that I was late for work and since I didn't drive in that area very often, I didn't realize I was doing so much over the speed limit. He simply told me to slow it down and that he'd let me off with a warning.

 

Do some cops abuse their power? Sure. But that is a VERY SMALL percentage. Show them respect and they will do the same with you.
