So this happened to me last year.

 

I was in Dayton, OH for work doing an inventory for a client. I'm not at all familiar with the Dayton area. I'm driving on 75 S home, going 70, using my Garmin (which indicates the speed limit is 65). I get pulled over by a cop. He says he pulled me over for speeding, and asks if I know the speed limit. I tell him 65. He proceeds to ask me if I'm stupid. Tells me I had just entered a construction zone, making the speed limit 55. He then proceeds to tell me that it's idiots like me that cause accidents. He literally was sitting right at the beginning of the construction zone.

 

Yes, I was speeding, and yes it was a construction zone. I have no problem with him giving me a ticket. What I do have a major problem with, is him calling me stupid, calling me an idiot, and telling me he "ought to take me to jail".

 

So please tell me how exactly I'm trying to rationalize anything here?

"Quite often" may have been a poor word choice. "more often than many think" may have been more appropriate.

That's not abusin power, that's just someone being a jerk. I'll let you in ona secret...there are jerks in every profession.

No he wasn't drinking. We were 16 or 17.

If that's the worst thing you hear in life you will be fine. He did not abuse his power by telling you he "ought to take you to jail". That isn't a threat...

When I was 17 I was arrested for evading. Put in the trooper's car, taken to jail, parents had to bail me out. FWIW, I wasn't evading.

I am marrying the daughter of a former officer and it's much worse than most would like to believe just like every business their is corruption everywhere.
