I didn't flip the woman off, and I didn't call her names. I also didn't flip out over being charged a couple of extra bucks...I didn't get what I ordered, and was willing to pay additional to get what I ordered, but was denied that option and told that I had gotten what I ordered....and then told I need an attitude adjustment when I was trying to explain that I disagreed but was willing to pay to get the items I didn't receive.

So, it is okay to put the public in danger by ignoring traffic laws to respond to non-emergency situations faster?

 

I will try that logic the next time I get a ticket for a moving violation...

 

Officer: I clocked you going 90 in a 55, saw you run a red light, then you rolled thru a stop sign. What is the emergency?

 

Me: "Sorry officer, I have to be at this jobsite in a certain amount of time. You know...response time...

Okay and that's different than me telling the officer I was sorry for speeding (which I wasn't if I hadn't just entered the construction zone) and didn't realize it was a construction zone (since I drive that area maybe once a year) how? To tell me I was an idiot and stupid is different than being told you need an attidute adjustment how?

Well, you were speeding in a construction zone, and yes, his words were jerkish....but regardless, it stands to reason that there were signs posted warning of an upcoming construction zone and speed reduction. I may be in the minority, but I do pay attention to those signs that post an upcoming construction zone for the simple reason that I know the fines are doubled, and I can't afford that kind of ticket.

 

And the situations are vastly different. :lol: I wasn't doing anything I shouldn't have to get that comment.

Ignorance of the law is never an excuse.

 

It's not rationalizing it at all. Cops abuse their power quite often. There's a very big difference between someone being rude or disrespectful and someone doing something that warrants an arrest or being detained.

About as often as a fireman carries a victim into a fire. If the boy was detained, it was for a good reason. That's the problem with hearing stories told and retold. You don't often here the "whoole" truth, and yu certainly don't here the point of view of both sides.

 

So this happened to me last year.

 

I was in Dayton, OH for work doing an inventory for a client. I'm not at all familiar with the Dayton area. I'm driving on 75 S home, going 70, using my Garmin (which indicates the speed limit is 65). I get pulled over by a cop. He says he pulled me over for speeding, and asks if I know the speed limit. I tell him 65. He proceeds to ask me if I'm stupid. Tells me I had just entered a construction zone, making the speed limit 55. He then proceeds to tell me that it's idiots like me that cause accidents. He literally was sitting right at the beginning of the construction zone.

 

Yes, I was speeding, and yes it was a construction zone. I have no problem with him giving me a ticket. What I do have a major problem with, is him calling me stupid, calling me an idiot, and telling me he "ought to take me to jail".

 

So please tell me how exactly I'm trying to rationalize anything here?

Okay, you have ONE example. And that example is being retold from one point of view. I suspect that, if we had a recorder on the scene, we would be hard pressed to discern the word "idiot" in the conversation.

 

If you were a construction worker, or the family of one, you would have a lot more respect for that officer. Construction workers are risking their lives every day out there. They don't need some kid barreling through at 15 mph over the limit.

I completely agree with what the Trooper told you . You were stupid , you were an idiot , you showed a clear disdain for the lives of the road construction workers . Those construction zones are clearly marked far enough ahead for you to have slowed to the posted safe speed .

I've been driving for 31 years. I've never seen an officer flip on his lights to get through a red light and then turn them off once through.

I've been driving for 21 and have never seen it, either.

So, you do not think that response will work? Man, I thought if I used the same excuse for disobeying traffic laws I would be okay. I guess it depends on what vehicle I am driving when I get questioned.

 

I do not know about important but my job does require me to document all my times to and from "jobs." All of those times and conversations are time stamped recorded whether I use a radio or phone because of those dang government agencies and their bureaucratic standards that must be met.

Apples and oranges. RM's issue at McD's didn't put someone's life in danger. Driving too fast in a construction zone does.

If they have somewhere to be that requires them to ignore the stop light and other basic traffic laws, those rollers should be flashing at all times, not just long enough to get through the light.

 

Often times it is tactically safer for an officer to arrive on scene without everyone knowing he is there. Which is why from time to time you might see an officer run a light, and then turn their lights off.

A great example would be if someone types in their "silent" security alarm from home or a place business. When you see the "cops" in your neighborhood with no lights "looking" around that is sometimes the case. The "quiet" approach is for the safety of the potential victim, if there is one.
