I am marrying the daughter of a former officer and it's much worse than most would like to believe just like every business their is corruption everywhere.

Like others have already said, it's not as bad as many want to believe. But simply because you will always have those who hate the police you will always have the belief that the police are corrupt. I'd say most police are not corrupt. But you really only hear about the police who do something wrong. You dont always hear about the police when they do something good because it's their job.

Most people don't seem to worry or care about it. I know what he has told me and there is some corruption involved I was just stating that it happens in all areas of business. The vast majority of officers do their job and do it well.

Criminally dumb, but not criminal. Now there's taxpayers' money being wasted on court proceedings to contest a ticket about somebody flicking someone else off. That's criminal.

I really don't disagree with anything in this post. Corruption happens in law enforcement, it's just not as common as some want to believe it is IMO..

Do you follow them to make sure that's the reason they did it?

So this happened to me last year.

 

I was in Dayton, OH for work doing an inventory for a client. I'm not at all familiar with the Dayton area. I'm driving on 75 S home, going 70, using my Garmin (which indicates the speed limit is 65). I get pulled over by a cop. He says he pulled me over for speeding, and asks if I know the speed limit. I tell him 65. He proceeds to ask me if I'm stupid. Tells me I had just entered a construction zone, making the speed limit 55. He then proceeds to tell me that it's idiots like me that cause accidents. He literally was sitting right at the beginning of the construction zone.

 

Yes, I was speeding, and yes it was a construction zone. I have no problem with him giving me a ticket. What I do have a major problem with, is him calling me stupid, calling me an idiot, and telling me he "ought to take me to jail".

 

So please tell me how exactly I'm trying to rationalize anything here?

I completely agree with what the Trooper told you . You were stupid , you were an idiot , you showed a clear disdain for the lives of the road construction workers . Those construction zones are clearly marked far enough ahead for you to have slowed to the posted safe speed .

I've been driving for 31 years. I've never seen an officer flip on his lights to get through a red light and then turn them off once through.
