I agree. And he is only 27. The past two years he was injured. Two years ago before he got hurt he was solid. Last year coming back from TJ surgery he was good enough that the Reds had him their #1 starter in the post season. He was the opening day pitcher this year. I say we give him a second full season to try and find out what he is. I just am not willing to give up on someone with his talent who was an All Star and one of the top rookies in the league in his only full big league season. You all are giving up on him before he has even had a second full season. And there is no way I trade his talent for a player's three month contract run.

 

I would normally agree with this, however since the Reds have a lot of starting pitchers that are good enough to be in a starting rotation. Then it makes it easier to trade someone like him, because they have people. Volquez IMO will never be a #1 guy, so he basically fits in with all the pitchers we have. Which are a bunch of solid pitchers, but more like middle of the rotation type pitchers. So if he basically the same as the rest, then no reason not to if the price is right. IMO as I said before there are only two guys the Reds have who could be #1's and that is Wood, or Chapman. Other than that, there really is no one IMO.

Read an article yesterday or the day before off mlb trade rumors written by a Mets writer about the teams "stars" and where they'd be August 1. He had Beltran in Yankee pinstripes, Wright & Phelphry staying with the Mets, Rodriquez in Texas, and Reyes in Cincinnati.

That may be true but it won't be for Volquez. The further into the season it goes, the lower the value of Reyes. If the Reds get him, it will be a deal for prospects like Alonso, Frazier, etc.

I agree I wouldn't mind trading Alonso, Frazier, Fransisco and maybe even Grandal although I'd probably hold onto him a bit longer to see if his value goes up...Hamilton could be a Jose Reyes clone eventually, if he could figure out how to switch hit better...

At this point, I'm not sure that Alonso, Frazier and Francisco have very much value on the trade market. None of them look like guys that will develop into quality everyday players.

I kind of see where your coming from because none of them are oozing with potential in any certain area except maybe Fransisco in the Power Category...However none of them have had the chance and they have all put up respectable minor league numbers...Some players become even better when inserted in the ML Lineup with the likes of a Stubbs, Votto, Phillips, Bruce and Rolen...Nobody really knows but I'd say they all except maybe Fransisco have the potential to be Quality everyday players, just not superstars...

Yeah no doubt, Alonso and Frazier both have been on fire as of late...And Fransisco since coming back I think has also been pretty good...

I'm still of the belief that Francisco can be a very productive major leaguer. It's not fair to him how the Reds have used him. You can't expect a 23-24 year old guy that's still developing to get 2-3 ABs a week and fully reach their potential. That's why it sucked that he was hurt when Rolen went down. We could have finally gotten to see him in more of an everyday role.

He's hitting .305-5-23 in 167 games ... decent numbers, but not enough to get anyone really excited about him.
