Can we just talk about the 2011 season? This thread kind of took a wrong turn when we got into scholarships. I wish them all well regardless of where they go or what they do.

As QS pointed out it was not Mayfield but, rather, Murray. If I remember correctly the Murray coach refused the trophy.

Let's bring this back to the top. I like talking Beechwood football.

 

I was talking to one of the fathers of one of the boys last night at Kroger and he said that he estimates that the O-line will weigh in somewhere around the 250 avg. size. Very exciting!

 

That isn't bad for A football. Center and left tackle around 270 and the others in the 240-245 range.

 

I think my fat butt could gain 100 yards behind a line like that.

 

The days of having big slow kids are over. Look at some of the better of schools. The O lines are are big yes but also can move have quick feet and can move up field blocking.

Here it comes the HHS high jacking. I don't think they had linemen over 240 last year. They are fast get off the ball well and move great down field blocking. Also if BW o-line has to play both ways because they are a small school by the middle of the 4th qtr they are wore out and laying on people.

Don't get me wrong i like what i see in BW next year they are going to have a great run in A this year. I mean HHS even dropped them off the schedule this year.

VOR-I root for Bechwood, but they lost that game fair and square do to a lack of knowledge of the game rules..not the coaches, a player..as for 2011, the Tigers and their faithful sure have been talking up this season for a long time. I like their lineup and their schedule. I do have concerns at the QB position simply from an untested perspective, but as you know, I wasn't overwhelmed by their play at that spot last year. (We had a debate about it last year.) If I were Coach Rash-all focus would be on beating Mayfield. They are the big boys in the room. The Tigers are capable for sure.

 

Part of the issue with Beechwood in Northern Kentucky is that most years the A teams don't give them much trouble. So the big contests tend to be CCH, NCC, etc. I know the Tigers goal every year is to win the state crown, and 2011 will be an opportunity, but as has already been pointed out going to the far southwestern corner of the state is no treat. We all know that is who they will be playing in the semi's-so it is encumbant of the coaches to prepare for whatever is necessary to win that game. Should the Tigers fail this year, I believe there will be much grubling around Fort Mitchell.

^ I agree with your thoughts on 2011. No doubt it is all about getting over the Mayfield hurdle and hopefully this is the year it happens. Beechwood specifically scheduled the away game with Elizabethtown to get road trip experience for that potential trip. They were very disappointed, probably could even say embarrassed, with how they handled the trip down there two years ago.

I do agree with you about the slow kids VS the quick kids. There is no doubt that the game has changed; however, when you have had smaller lines for the last few years, it is exciting to have some size. I am not concerned with not being quick. Most have started the last few years doubt they have lost much quickness.

 

I am not certain but I would say that there would be no linemen going both way. Some may sub in here or there, but not constant going both ways. But, then again, things do change.

To add a little spice to the show, Bw should get the nod at #1 to start the season with what they return and what Mayfield graduated. Mayfield should have plenty enough to get to the semis where they will be the big under dog this year but it is at Mayfield (if both make it) which is like a million miles from Ft Mitchell and the Cards younger talent (considered by some to be one of the most talented group to come through Mayfield) should start to get their act together late in the season. Simply put, this is Bw's best chance in the last couple of years. Bw, in my opinion, the last two years lost to Mayfield up front, particularly on defense. Both years, Mayfield took total control of the line play in the 2nd half when the Tigers either got worn down or quit and I would surely hope it was wore down as I do not expect a program of Bw's caliber to have kids quit though this was pretty much new ground for Bw given their past ownership of 1A. Anyway, I am betting this is Bw's to lose and hoping they do but they should be the favorite. On a travel note, I think that is a bigger factor for BW than Mayfield as Mayfield is use to it and I think kind of has a system for it in place where Beechwood rarely has to leave NKY but it sounds like Bw is addressing that issue with Etown but the thing about travel is that it involves much more than just getting use to long travel. The players approach to it is the most important part of it, espically if you have to over night at a hotel where kids will be kids and all kinds of potential distractions loom that often impact play. A coaches approach to limiting these distractions can go along way but at the end of the day the kids have to keep their mindsets right. I know I'm from Mayfield and I know what Bw did or did not do on the field in the last 2 years against us and to be honest I would say I know more about them than most being they were playing us for a state birth and if you were there and watched the game you could not help but see it too but as I clearly stated I hope it was from being worn down granted it was not like we had any bigger of a line than Bw and many of our kids were going both ways up front so either we were better conditioned, just plain better, luckier or they quit. I have no idea which of those it was but Bw is not use to getting pushed around and they might have just got down on themselves and quit but I would expect it to be a case of they were just worn down. Reguardless that is water under the bridge, this is a new year. Our whipping them last year will not have any impact on this year other than we will be confident but then again we always expect to win no matter if its Bw or the Green Bay Packers and Im sure Bw is motivated to end their 0 for 5 or whatever it is against us. I'm not sure why you took my comments to be offensive if you were paying attention to what my point was it should not have touched a nerve. Believe it or not I have great respect for Bw Football and if I were a betting man I would bet that the sun will continue to still rise in Ft Mitchell and the Tigers will get their ship righted at some point.

Well ... they have 3 playing D1 right now ... with another to add in this fall.

At the end of the day ... Beechwood has had more than their share of D1 players.

I don't really care how you see my response .... But to answer your question:

1. Neico Teipel Ohio University last season played at Beechwood-2008

2. Brady Slusher UC/EKU last season played at Beechwood-2008

3. Dominic Mainello UC last season played at Beechwood-2008

 

This coming fall: Michael Colosimo.

 

As far as the others .... There are a lot more than you realize. I'll let someone else fill in those gaps.

Drew Davis from the 2007 team played for U of L.

 

Matt Miller from 2008 is playing at Brown.
