My recollection (which might be faulty) is that the Tigers beat the Cardinals in the state finals during the Yeagle era in a game with the somewhat controversial ending where the the Beechwood QB ran back to his own endzone to run out the clock through the ball up in the air to celebrate when the final horn sounded and the ball was caught by a Mayfield defensive player in the end zone for what could have been ruled a Cardinal TD (which would have either tied or put them in the lead) but was not because the official ruled the whistle blew ending the game (??). Hopefully, I'm not stirring up trouble. Again, perhaps my memory may be faulty (and I am not a fan of either team and was not there) but perhaps some knowledgeable fan of one of the teams can confirm, deny or clarify if that was a Beechwood-Mayfield game with Beechwood coming out the winner.

I think that you are correct wanttowin! Also if they meet up this coming year Beechwood should handle them...They are returning a bunch of quality players and I think Mayfield is loosing a bunch.

As QS pointed out it was not Mayfield but, rather, Murray. If I remember correctly the Murray coach refused the trophy.

So the most dominant 1A team in history will be better this season? dang, oh well, I guess there's always next year!

 

 

It is nice having had the most dominant team in 1A history and no Beechood has never beat Mayfield. No the Cards will not be better than this year. They will be extremely talented but a little on the young side. They will be blessed with talent running over at the skill positions but for the Cards it will all come down to how well their qb and line develop. I expect some rough spots early in the season but they should develop into a pretty good team at some point. Beechwood seems to me to be in a similar situation and maybe the favorite this time and I have no problem with that they are a great program. I would have no problem accepting a loss to Bw if we leave it all on the field. Over the next 3 or 4 years, this comming season is the one that worries me the most as the younger classes are just loaded. Beechwood will have several big holes to feel as well but I think Mayfield has more to feel thus I think I would pick Bw early and then wait and see how well Mayfield developes.

There is depth at every single position except QB. There will be very few players going both ways all night. I am sure there will be some playing both ways but their snaps on one side of the ball will be limited. The biggest challenge will be getting the new QB and the offense rolling. But he has a very good touch throwing the ball and has been a winner his entire life at QB so it won't take long. Strength and depth across the board are the key words. Even the kicker will be one of the best up here. He will put more than half his kickoffs in the end zone and has 50 yard field goal range.

The only team that concerns me at this point is Dixie, but I could change my mind once I see this team when the season starts and see how they have developed since last season?

BW must get it done this year, IMO, because they will lose all but a couple of "key" players. They have the whole package and the QB will without a doubt hit the ground running and is as poised as they come. He would have been a 1-2yr starter at "many" other schools, but has remained patient to get his shot to lead this team. Several D1 looks without taking a meaningful HS snap speaks volumes.
