May 21, 201115 yr Any updates on this? I think the update is that he's behind bars for about 4 1/2 more months or so (unless I read it wrong).

May 22, 201115 yr Some guys just can't get it and that's unfortunate. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.
May 22, 201115 yr This sounds like Bud Mackey all over again... Only in the similarity that both are talented basketball players. Mackey was dealing. Big difference.
May 23, 201115 yr Some guys just can't get it and that's unfortunate. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink.I don't get it how some of these people don't think! It's not that they are smoking weed, it's people smoke it on probation, or like these two when they are released for a few hours to attend classes. Just wait until you are out and off probation.
May 23, 201115 yr This young man is destined for failure. He received a very lenient sentence the first time and he still was not smart enough to take advantage of opportunities that he's been given. It's unfortunately true that you can see which kids are never going to make it even when they're still early in their high school education.
May 24, 201115 yr I'm guessing he's probably averaging a double/double out in the yard this spring. All kinds of Elijah Pittmans playing ball down at Randolph Park in CVG in between their jail stints over the past several years. Add Pittmans to that list.
May 24, 201115 yr This is a shame. Every time I've spoken with him he was always very respectful and nice; he was cocky and loud on the court, but I honestly felt he was a good kid. This is what happens when kids that are easily influenced or have the tendency to make bad decisions get around the wrong crowd. Hopefully the six months incarcerated will teach him a lesson in making the right decisions. Maybe going down to Florida was not the best for him afterall. Just because it's one of the top JUCO's around for moving players up to the Div 1 ranks doesn't mean it's was the best place for him. People need to realize; after high school the main goal is to get an education. Playing JUCO, DIII, NAIA, DII or D1 doesn't matter, it's all about getting the degree. Parents and mentors need to look at what is best for the kid and put them in the best position to attain their degree. Not whether it's D1 or some big name school. Too many parents and kids fall into this trap and make a decision based on ego than common sense.

To those of us who followed his career in high school this isn't a surprise at all. This path was started a long time ago and is filled with a whole bunch of enablers who allowed his basketball talents to get in the way of doing the right thing for the kid. Not saying it isn't a tough environment at Holmes at times but there are success stories from these types of environments.
August 24, 201115 yr Update... Elijah is now enrolled at Lamar State Junior College in Texas. Maybe the time behind bars will do him some good. He is now also very close to a former UK coach who wanted him three years ago.
