March 10, 201115 yr They should have had the players come back out and redo the last 1.7. Didn't the head guy make the statement about 30 minutes after the game. I mean in a game that could determine whether or not you get into the NCAA tournament and it being a seniors last game I don't think it's right for the game to end the way it did.

A final piece of my anger is that the three officials did not huddle up to at least see what the other's observed. It was like they were late for dinner reservations. :madman:
March 10, 201115 yr Author Between games like this one and guys like Tim Donaghy, it's a wonder that there isn't more of "the fix is in" hue and cry. For the record, I think OR nailed it in post 13. With respect to the uncalled fouls, the officials were going to "let the players decide the game on the court" and weren't going to call anything short of one player shooting another player with an elephant gun. With respect to the final couple of seconds and the uncalled violations; the officials looked to have gotten caught up in a "the game must be over, the St. John's coach is already walking up the sideline" mentality. Still monumentally inept.
March 10, 201115 yr One thing we can see is Coach Lavin walking toward the Rutgers team to shake hands with time still going on. He saw his kid get the ball and started his walk so not only do you have the "walk/Foot on the line/coach out of the box big time." The refs saw Lavin walking down the sideline and thought well it must be over. I thought we were getting better by going to the moniter and rechecking this clock stuff, Jim Burr, he refs too many games and needs to retire. Its a hard job, but c'mon.
March 10, 201115 yr The refs shouldn't have let the coach (Lavin) influence their decision-making process. I was watching it live, and it appeared as if right when Lavin started heading toward the opposition's bench that the refs immediately started heading toward the back. Either way, it was TERRIBLE officiating.

Still monumentally inept. I liked what Fran Frachilla commented about the let the players decide the game mentality. He blasted that. He said when "a player decides to come over the back, he is deciding the out come of the game and a foul should have been called." This was before the last play fiasco.
March 10, 201115 yr Refs have came out and said they will miss the rest of the Big East Tourney. Shouldn't be allowed to call any games in the NCAA tourney either.
March 10, 201115 yr Bama had a Vandy player run into our guy and forced him out of bounds, they went nuts, Higgons was the ref. Showed later it was a horrible call. Cost us the game. There are over 900 Division 1 refs, but Jim Burr is always on TV...
March 10, 201115 yr The over/under on the game yesterday was 128.5, the final total was 128. Bet there were a ton of ticked off gamblers.
March 11, 201115 yr Shouldn't be allowed to call any games in the NCAA tourney either. They shouldn't be able to call any game again. This was not a case of missing calls or making the wrong decision, they quit before the game was over.
