More on NKU to D 1 and the Horizon League

Featured Replies

I have heard they indeed will be going to D 1 and they will be in the Horizon League. Sounds like the move will be for the 2012-2013 season. It is uncertain if there will be any probationary period, but I believe this is typically the case.

There should be an official announcement in the next 2 weeks, but comes from 2 people very close to their program.

I would think if they did go D1 the Horizon would make much more sense than the OVC.

I think the basketball program could make the jump, but what about the other programs?

I think this is great news for NKU and the entire area.

Soccer teams would fit right in as well.

Hopefully it works out for them. I wonder if they are going to be able to get any of the local teams to come play at Bank of KY.

This would be sweet...I believe the attendence will increase drastically with a move to D1...I know the student section would be full for all home games...Butler would be a huge game every year...I also believe NKU would become a recruiting power in the Horizon feeding off of the kids that UC and X pass on...

UC and X do very little recruiting locally because there is simply very little high major D1 level talent in the region. NKU would be going up against Miami, Dayton, Wright St and so on for the next level of kids. Much easier said than done...

I do too, the Horizon would be a far better fit for the Norse.

If the switch to D1 happens, I believe that ticket sales will definitely increase.

That's currently a low bar to hurdle. It will need to increase dramatically.

I would definitely agree with that statement. Men's team won the National Champsionship and are returning a large amount of their team (minus the National Player of the Year). And the women's team has been very consistantly lately as well.

I do think it would be sweet. I do think attendance will increase, but I really don't see the student section doing much more than it does now. Just my opinion though.

To take a contrarian position, might the move to DI actually hurt recruiting. NKY feasts on disenchanted DI players who desire a transfer but do not want to sit out a year. The Norse currently have 8 transfer players on the roster.

I can agree with that; the student section may change some, but I would be surprised if it was a very big change.
