What is the knock on Pike? Why won't he play QB at the next level?

 

Intangibles. He's a high school kid so I won't go much deeper than that...

A couple of the recent responses refer to intangibles. Couldn't agree more and that is why I have my doubts for Zeke as a successful QB at the D1 level. Recruiting is based on tangibles (size, speed, strength, physical capabilities, etc.) I simply believe he will end up at another position and hopefully will have success.

Comparisons are just so tough people. No doubt that both are very good QBs, and no doubt that they have somewhat equal size.

Now when we start talking about abilities, attitude and leadership qualities, we must take into account ones age. Anyone know how old each of these young men will be or are at this point in time. Asking because it does make a difference in all of the 3 latter if we want to make a fair comparison based on the most important facts. Most noticeable would be arm strength, and when you have great arm strength your accuracy will improve based on confidence.

I was talking the other day with a buddy of mine and we were talking about Brandon Roller, he graduated at 17. Could have played another yr for the Birds!!!!! Yikes.

 

It's funny that a LB'er comes up in a QB thread . Most people don't know it , but Brandon had thought of trying out at QB his junior year. I think his uncle Bill might have talked him out of the QB thing (imagin that !!)

Back to the thread , both Pike and Towles will represent Ky. very well no matter what position they end up playing in college!

Notre Dame recruited Demetrius Jones as a QB. He ended up flaming out as a LB at Cincinnati. Point???

Actually it has a lot to do with Zeke Pike. Some prospects, no matter how highly rated, simply aren't cut out to be a QB at the highest level regardless of talent level...

First off you have an over inflated "knowledge" of those actually recruiting him as a QB. Second because it's my job to know these things just as much as it is theirs to find the most talented players possible and work with them from there once they get them on campus. Ugly business and all that noise...

Not to get off topic, but how did Brandon's freshman year go? Is he playing inside or OLB at Georgetown?

Brandon is no longer playing football and is enrolled at UK now.

IF Pike doesn't play QB in college, it is not a big deal, but it will have nothing to do with your speculation; right now, he is being recruited as a QB and that came from his head coach, who knows Pike and the recruiters best.

And a college would NEVER tell a kid/coach what they wanted to hear in the recruiting process. That is just totally out of the realm of possibility...
