You either interested in knowing what's going on or you're not. There are too many options for people who do not read a newspaper. You have to go out of your way to miss major news nowadays. Twitter is on my phone. It takes me so little time to browse through those that I "follow." If it interests me I can then click on a link to learn more. Not a lot of physical or mental effort expended.

 

When Twitter first came out I was one of those that said "why do I care if you're going to the grocery or seeing a movie. "

 

Twitter is now often my first source of real news info.

I was an early Twitter doubter but now it's my absolute favorite form of news. I mainly use it for music, mma, and baseball. It has become a great tool for keeping up with and discovering new musicians.

 

I occasionally even gather "real news" from it.

Meanwhile, Jersey Shore is enjoying nice ratings. This frustrates me to a great deal with American's, it doesn't matter if you're conservative, liberal, liberatarian or anything else, just please be informed. Can an ignorant electorate be trusted to preserve democracy?

I saw a tweet yesterday that said Pew(I think) did a poll and found that 52% of those polled were not aware of the conflict going on in Egypt.

 

Come on. 52%? You don't have to be able to speak intelligently about it or be able to debate sides with someone but how in the world can you NOT be AWARE of it?

 

Very ignorant. I talk about this with two friends of mine all the time. Even people that you would think know what's going on don't.

When people are struggling in their own lives, they don't have time to pay attention to what is going on 5000 miles away. What is sad is not that people don't know, but they are in a situation where they don't care to know.

I'd say far, far more just don't care about news or current events.

That's sad, really sad.

You're probably not in a minority on your news gathering especially in your age group. It's hard for us older guys to fathom that though.

In all honesty, I really don't have time. I get up at 6:30, work from 8-6, go home, eat dinner, study until 9-9:30, watch maybe an hour of whatever basketball game is on TV, and go to bed, do it all again the next day.

True, but what's going on in Egypt very likely will impact their lives very directly in the not too distant future if things turn out wrong over there.

My opinion is that this is because there are no term limits on Idol winners. How long ago was it Kelly Clarkson won Idol... 2002? She's entering her third four-year term already. Just imagine if William Hung had won? Can you imagine 9 years of Willie Hung?

They say that one of the chief complaints people from other countries have about US citizens is that we don't know about anything going on outside of our country unless it some how impacts us.
