How Ignorant Are We?

Featured Replies

More people vote for the winner of American Idol and Dancing With the Stars than vote in the presidential election.

And you can bet that more people are talking about American Idol, Dancing With the Stars and Survivor around the water cooler than about all of the other countries - including Egypt - combined.

Unless Survivor is in Nicaragua or someplace like that. Then it's probably 50-50.

My opinion is that this is because there are no term limits on Idol winners. How long ago was it Kelly Clarkson won Idol... 2002? She's entering her third four-year term already. Just imagine if William Hung had won? Can you imagine 9 years of Willie Hung?

Is the fact that their terms are shorter supposed to excuse our American stupidity?

I'm surprised it's not more like 75 percent. We are a nation of stupid, self-absorbed clowns who are incapable of seeing the world beyond what's directly in front of our face.

I agree! It's actually hard not to stuble across news from the USA or the world, including major USA or world news. Have an email account? AOL? Yahoo? Hotmail? They ALL have news services! It pops up right in front of you! There is a reason that the US falls WAY behind other nations, there is NO reason not to know history or current events!

I check wcpo.com, NKY.com, Kentucky.com, and Cincinnati.com about every day, the first two a couple times a day. The sad things is a lot of people who are not from the USA know more about the USA than many people who are Americans.

I'd say far, far more just don't care about news or current events.
Agreed.... Thats why we ended up with Obama..... Too many uninformed people...

I didn't vote for Obama, so let's get that out of the way.

But I find it interesting how some are using the "ignorance" of the voters as the "reason" for Obama's election when if the truth is known every losing side says that whether they are referring to Obama, George W. Bush, or Bill Clinton.

Agreed(somewhat)..... Are the words uninformed and ignorant the same? If so, then I don't think everyone who voted for Obama is stupid... They just didn't do their own home work on the two candidates..

Can be.

I can see that, or they did their own homework but came at far different conclusions than you or I may have. :thumb:

False. I actually did a lot of homework on both McCain and Obama.

You just came up with the wrong answer. (As did those who voted McCain) :D

I couldn't tell you much about what is going on in Egypt, but I do know that its not a good situation. A friend in the office just had her honeymoon plans scratched because of it. She was going to be on some type of Mediterranean cruise and was suppose to stop there.

I check CNN just about every morning...doesn't mean I read everything, but it helps.

Can you imagine 9 years of Willie Hung?
Is that a Bill Clinton joke?
