How did NCC win small school conference? Who is in the small school conference?

 

Is BB playing in this Tournament? No, they chose not to! So of the small school listed, NCC had the best record!

"CovCath and NCC were seeded as the big and small school each have one team seeded".

 

Last year it was Scott (cov) and HHS if I am not mistaken!

I didn't bring his name up. The biggest reason he is a bad example is that a team would never bring a Varsity player down to play in the frosh tournament. I was speaking more to teams bringing down frosh JV players who have not been on their frosh teams all season. Some here think it's ok and others disagree.

You were also the one who brought up the age eligibility clause in the frosh tourny, which led me to believe you don't know the state rule on the matter, or you would see the two coincide. I'm not sure why you would've mentioned it if you knew the state rule.

As long as a kid is eligible to play his senior year, he's eligible for the freshman tourny. State rule is you can't turn 19 before 8/1 of your senior year.

 

As far as Hatton goes, I don't know why his name keeps coming up, he's eligible to play through his senior year.

No back pedaling here whatsoever. I am not pretending to question anything. Why would I question something I already know? If you would look at my original post (#27), I asked if any team's roster would be impacted by the eligibility rules for this tournament. Someone else used Hatton as an example, not me. Btw, someone sent me the eligibility rule for this tournament and here it is: "Anyone who is a freshman or younger in class, and has NOT turned 16 years of age before August 1, 2010." The only question I asked in my original post was, would any rosters be affected by this rule. Get is right Sandman.

Will never happen. I understand what you are saying, but do you think Dixie will risk an injury to Hatton by allowing him to play in this? Just using this one case as an example.

 

Hatton is different. I don't expect him or any freshman varsity starter to play.

I don't think Brandon ever played freshman ball, why would he start now? I really look forward to this tournament. It's always nice to see the next crop of future Varsity players. Good luck to all of the teams participating.

It is major slap in the face to the freshman who play on that team all year. If a boy plays both freshman and jv then he deserves to play in the tournaments but if he hasn't played or practiced with the freshman team it would send the wrong signal. Freshman shouldn't have the rug pulled out from under them just because a Coach wants a Championship!

I hear what you are saying VOR. I think everyone always wants to see best vs. the best. However, I think what you are saying is good in theory but bad in reality. Here are some random thoughts on the topic:

 

-Team chemistry. I think it would be completely lost if you took players who had not played or practiced all season with the frosh team and inserted them just for the tourney.

-Moral. I think it would detrimental to players moral if you moved kids around and some players lost their playing time and their contributions were suddenly minimized.

-Identity. I think it's important for a team to have an identity and these teams have played the entire season with a set group. What would it do if you injected guys that had not been there all season?

 

Personally, I think moving some frosh up to play JV is beneficial to the development of the entire program at any given school. It challenges the kids who got moved up and will make them better ball players, and it opens up valuable minutes for the frosh to develop as well. I think at the end of the day, this is what it's all about. Developing as many players as possible and preparing them for big time Varsity basketball. The more kids you have ready when they are juniors and seniors, the better off your program will be in the long run. It's nice to win a frosh championship, but at the end of the day, what true significance does it have?

I think RE knows as much about the kid in question than anyone on this board....unless his parents are posting.

Lloyd doesn't have a freshman basketball team?!? Wow.That is flat out embarrassing and should be so for everyone in that school system. Last year no freshman football. This year no freshman basketball. I know sports is sports and I am on the outside looking in, but to me those are red flags about the school system. They need something to change in the administration there to get some life back into that school.

 

Not sure how administration affects kids interest in athletics? The principal has been there for a very long time (both as an assistant and principal) and the super used to be the old principal. The administration is the same, lets look elsewhere for excuses!

1. The difference in the state rule and the apparent tourney rule is that the state rule is grade-agnostic. The state rule says you can play any sport in any grade as long as you're not 19 before 8.1 of that season. In theory, the state rule will allow a kid that is a JR and turns 19 on August 2nd of his JR year to play that year.

 

The tourney rule is obviously specific to a grade since it is a grade tourney.

 

2. RE wasn't questioning Hatton's age. Trust me that he's well aware of young Mr. Hatton and KNOWS there is no issue.
