Is there any type of rule that prevents teams from bringing frosh down from their JV teams that haven't played frosh ball all season? Also, will the age limit affect any rosters?

 

I hope teams bring their freshmen down to play in this tournament.

The only requirement is that all participants must be freshman or younger. So, an 8th grader can play up, but a 10th grader can't play down. No rule preventing bringing a freshman down from the JV team for the tournament. I don't know if I remember any coach doing so in the past, but many kids who play both, or all three, have played in the tournament. Ludlow will have a freshman who plays on all three teams and is pretty talented.

 

I am being told that there is an age requirement to participate. All participating players had to complete a form regarding age. Cannot be 16 prior to 8/1. Anyone else know about this??

Why would you hope for this? Wouldn't this be a slap in the face of the kids that played frosh all year? Doesn't seem right to "bump" kids with JV players, does it?

I want to see the best freshman talent in the area on the court facing off against each other. I am sorry for those that got to play a lot because the better player was moved up to JV or even varsity. I am sure they will get some playing time in the tournament and I would hope they want to win first and foremost. I just think it would be great to have all the best freshman players in the area on the court and see who comes out on top.

Can honestly say I've never heard of a "small school" or "large school" conference in NKY, unless you refer to the NKAC Divisions I, II and III? If so, I'm pretty sure NCC didn't win the NKAC Div. II this year??

It is major slap in the face to the freshman who play on that team all year. If a boy plays both freshman and jv then he deserves to play in the tournaments but if he hasn't played or practiced with the freshman team it would send the wrong signal. Freshman shouldn't have the rug pulled out from under them just because a Coach wants a Championship!

I agree but his name was the only one who came to mind. I have heard of other local frosh playing JV/Varsity or even Varsity only. Do you think the Varsity coach would risk one of his guys getting hurt playing in this touney, potentially making him unavailable for District/Region play? I still do not see it happening.

As long as a kid is eligible to play his senior year, he's eligible for the freshman tourny. State rule is you can't turn 19 before 8/1 of your senior year.

Correct, however, there are some players who played frosh ball this year during the season that will not be able to play in the tournament because they will NOT be able to play their senior year. So basically the frosh rule states even though you played during the regular season, you cannot participate in the frosh tournament. These are kids who can play two more years of high school (soph. and jr. year), but can't participate in the frosh tournament.

I didn't bring his name up. The biggest reason he is a bad example is that a team would never bring a Varsity player down to play in the frosh tournament. I was speaking more to teams bringing down frosh JV players who have not been on their frosh teams all season. Some here think it's ok and others disagree.

NCC beat Highlands, Ryle, Scott, SK, Boone, Cooper. Not too shabby!

Breds are 14-7, very tough first round matchup with Ryle.

 

Tournament is very wide open. CovCath is the favorite. They are 20-2 with no losses to NKY teams. Highlands, SK, Conner, NCC and Ryle are sleepers who might sneak up and win it. Scott is the defending champion and you cannot rule them out either.

 

Highlands was missing Houliston and Hergott when they lost to NCC by 1pt. They were missing Buten the speedy PG when they lost to Ryle by 6 and were missing another player also when they lost to CCH. Everyone is healthy now so they will get a good look at how good they really are right off the bat vs SK.

I would not want to face HHS in this tournament. Any Geiman coached team will be a tough out. SK is a tough draw because they have some very talented kids on that team. This game will be one of the best opening round games of the tournament. Whoever wins goes on to the Final 4. Good Luck to both teams.
