I always hold the door for people coming....

 

...another thing I do in an elevator that drives my wife nuts, is I stand in the front, and turn around and look at everyone staring forward. It really makes some people uncomfortable.

In most instances, I will do what I can to help others. I usually do not start conversation, but I will smile or nod a greeting. If the other person begins a conversation, I will participate, but I'll admit that I am a little on the shy side with people that I do not know.

Some random scenarios of things I've noticed recently:

 

You are entering an elevator, and you notice someone approaching. They're not right behind you, and the elevator will likely close before they arrive at the door do you:

 

 

B) board the elevator and hold the door open for the person apporaching

 

 

Similar question: You're on an elevator, and positioned closest to the selection panel. Do you:

 

 

B) push your button and ask the others on the car what button they need pushed?

 

And yet another elevator question: You're in an elevator with several other people. Do you:

 

 

C) ignore everyone Unless they are friendly to me I usually don't say much

 

You're going through a door, either entering or exiting a building/room. You see someone approaching and they're not too far away. Do you:

 

B) Hold the door even if it causes you to stop for a few second

So, the reason I asked these questions is that they're all scenarios that have happend to me as "the person approaching" or I've been placed in as the person in the elevator or opening the door.

 

I am a B,B,B,B person. So, I notice when I see others doing otherwise. I was two steps from the elevator door in our parking garage last evening when the person in front of me gets on, turns around, punches their floor and watches the door close as I'm approaching. It was about 5:30, still snowing like crazy, and as windy and cold as all get-out. On the brightside, it got my blood boiling so I didn't notice the cold as much. I also had someone let the door close behind them just as I was reaching for it to go through. Almost smashed my hand.

I'm a B, B, B, B person in rockmom's scenario. Clyde's scenario I'd say "not the lobby". A little story-I was at a hotel in Palm Springs, CA getting on an elevator when I heard someone from behind say, "hold the elevator". So I got on and held the elevator for Farrah Fawcett.

I'd take the friendly approach to each scenario.

Hold the door, and ask them if they have a realationship with Jesus Christ. Well, I wish I could, but usually I say hello. I also hold it when I get off and new people are coming on.

Take the stairs

I've gotten cussed before because I boarded an elevator and hit DOOR CLOSE instead of DOOR OPEN as someone was approaching the doors. Before I got off on the 11th floor, I made sure I pressed every number between 11 and Lobby. Accidents do happen.

To your questions I agree with Clyde's response.

 

But I have a question or more of a pet peeve about elevators that has really bothered me lately. I go to the gym that is on the second floor of an office building. On the third floor is a college. Nine times out of ten, and it is not always the college students of all ages but most of the time it is, that when the door opens and I wont to exit the elevator, that the people waiting to get on barg in. I grew up under the rule that the people on the elevator should be allowed to exit first before those waiting to get on entered. What happened to manners?:idunno:

 

 

Or I'm I just missing some new politically correct way to enter the elevator like "it's my constitutional right to enter the elevator anyway I please". To heck with manners.:idunno:

If its a Ryle or Highlands fan push the close the door button or tell them to take the stairs.

One more elevator scenario.

 

You are on the elevator when another person gets on and they either re-hit the button for lobby or see that it's going to the lobby.

 

Elevator stops at a floor prior to the lobby and they start to get off. Do you say "not the lobby" or do you let them get off and then realize it's not the lobby?

 

When I'm at the library I usually ride the elevators and there are constantly people getting off on the wrong floor and if I know which floor they pushed I'll always tell them wrong floor. I would hope someone would do the same for me and save me a minute or two waiting on the next elevator/finding the stairs.
