I don't think it is ever appropriate to use the kind of language that Coach Cal used. Yes, I have played sports and yes, I've heard my fair share of profanity but it doesn't make it right nor should it ever be accepted as okay. As a Kentucky fan I'm very disappointed in Coach Cal's language. No player should be humiliated like the way Jones was last night in front of the public. There is absolutely no justification for that kind of language in sports or anything else for that matter. I do acknowlege that Calipari apologized for his outburst via Twitter and hopefully he will learn to use better discretion when handling players who are not living up to his standards of play.

Agreed!! I think there is a big difference in the way you use these "bad" words as well. I don't really want to get into examples because it's doesn't really comply with the rules. I think you all can think of some examples of what I am trying to say.

If what the coach said is no big deal, then why all the up roar nation wide? I don't think calling your player a name directed personal in general is not right. I saw the replay a few minutes ago and watched how Jones looked afterward...What comes to mind when you first think of Bobby Knight?

It's been such an uproar nationally because the media loves to make something out of nothing, and it's a slow sports news day.

I would have been upset as well. They were playing scared.

I think that was the same thing Jones' Mom called him when he picked Washington at the presser. The only problem I have with it would be if he was NOT a "selfish blank blanker".

If he'd be spoken to like this in "public" I may agree with you, but this was in a huddle, in an arena where you couldn't hear a thing a few feet away?? Guessing this happens to some degree in every game, by most coaches; but they don't have someone sticking a microphone in their faces.

 

If folks are offended by this, then tell ESPN and others to quit taping where they don't belong; or grabbing a coach/player in the heat of battle and expecting totally composed and well thought out comments!!

I was just thinking the same thing, I remember when he'd "try" not to use expletives the sentence would still typically end with one "hell fire son what are you trying to do with all of this hurky jerk bull........ you can use your imagintation.:lol:

People are upset because they are whiners. Many of the ones that are upset use the exact same language.

Now don't take this the wrong way, but if there were other ways I'm sure the coaches would do it. I'm sure no coach enjoys jumping their players' butts about situations like this but it has to be done at times to get their attention and get the point across.

 

If you all think Calipari is bad, you should watch a Duke game. That might change your tune.

The bottom line is, would you be okay with your boss saying that to you? Would you be okay with someone, anyone saying that to your child? Do you honestly think there is one iota of benefit to be gained from talking to another human being that way?
