Coach Calipari Uncensored

Featured Replies

Parking Jones on the bench and cursing at him at a 2 foot distance without cameras to intercept every lipreading moment is different IMO than what he did.

Semantics. You don't coach based on which camera is on.

Not semantics. It's called tact. Could have made the same impact with him individually and not screaming on the court. And let's not pretend that Cal isn't aware of the cameras.

As I stated before, it's awfully naive to think that approach hasn't already been attempted.

Then park him. That's on Cal if the point hasn't been made well enough.

Since it has become a point in this thread, my boss has cussed me, I have cussed him, we have cussed at each other. We are still friends. I don't expect people to jump to my rescue and say my boss shouldn't cuss at me. Who gives a crap.

As for college coaches, they are not paid to have tact, they are not paid to play nicey nice, they are not paid to be liked. They are paid to win, nothing more, nothing less, just to win.

And why do people think this is a new, does anyone think that Bear Bryant didn't use some colorful language when he was at UK? Simple fact is, it's the coaches responsibility to communicate with the players. He is to know what players respond to private discussions and what players respond to public humiliation. If you confuse the two, you don't win as much. I would say this coach knows how to get the best out of his players.

Did he apologize? Yes, it's a PR thing. Did he mean it? No. Is he going to do it again? Yes.

Then park him. That's on Cal if the point hasn't been made well enough.

Standing too close to the nitrous oxide again? You've spent way too much time hunting animals that aren't there....

The repercussions would be too great. We've seen what losing games at UK gets you, rehab or Minnesota (Not sure which is worse). Also, you can recruit the best players who will only be there a year. How many of those do you get if you continue to take playing time away (in their eyes, potential $$$)? Now, we're back to rehab or Minnesota.

I may be nuts. Arguing with my 12 year old is not much different than arguing with you. It's a big picture thing. What good did it do him to curse the kid? Did it help? Will we see him share the basketball any better? Still lost to Alabama either way. Been a good time to put his rearend on the pine to get your point across. Say in a presser after that Jones was being selfish and was on the bench because he wouldn't share the ball. Is that point any different? He could tactfully do it and still call him out publicly after the fact without calling him one who commits fornication with his mommy. I understand how things are said in the heat of the moment. Just shows lack of vocabulary on Mr. Cal's part if that's all he could muster under stress. Bravo Cal.

I'm still trying to figure out why this is such a huge deal....He cursed at a player. Whoop de do. Happens on a daily basis in almost every practice gym in America from the high school level on up.

Giving up because you might lose is a "big picture thing"? You know every coach thinks they can win every game, always. Non-issue, period.

IF one kid on your bench is giving up, well, doesn't say much for the other kids you recruited.

It's because people are way too sensitive. They teach their 6 year olds, "Stick and stones will break my bones, but names will never harm me", then when someone cusses a 19 year old it's, "I dare him to speak that way". Many of the same people who complain about this stuff go and watch Samuel L. Jackson - who at times would make Cal's tirade look rated G. Hypocritical.

Cause he won't share it, shoots 2 out of every 3 trips. Come on, it's the hot topics forum, play along. And UKMF thinks Marissa Tomei is hotter than Halle Berry, so how can you put much stock in that guy's opinion?

"Terrence I know we have talked about this at length in practice and meetings, but now would be a really swell time for you to start involving your teammates a little better by passing the ball. Just wanted to let you know, buddy. Thanks."

Wait a minute! I did not get into this discussion to be lumped in with UKMF...

"There got to be some law!"
