You are so right. How anyone can support the unfair treatment of fans and teams in a Regional Tourney is beyond me.

I am just curious but when did all of this bickering start about Mason not being able to hold a fair tournament under favorable conditions. The Fieldhouse has been host to the tournament 43 out of the last 46 years. The tournament director that we have now has run the tournament since the early 90's. There has been 12 different winners with Mason leading with 13, Harrison with 7 and Clark with six. In 1969 Clark hosted the tourney and Clark won, 2008 at Montgomery and 2009 at NKU which Mason won both. In 1997 our friends from the 9th joined and have claimed two championships with Campbell and Bishop Brossart. During these years I have attended nearly every regional and and people from all over the region including Ohio have come to watch the tournament. During these years I have seen about everything from fights, buzzer beaters, split sessions, double header sessions and of course bad refereeing but again the next year it was voted to Mason again. Never did I ever hear unfair to terrible conditions. Then comes a new decade and Montgomery builds a very nice but gym and then the BOK springs up and now they want to host. Now that these venues host and want to host in the future, Mason is hosting an unfair and biased tournament. Most of these opinions are coming from the two areas that has these new gyms and all others schools don't have much of a problem. When Montgomery and BOK hosted only the participating teams received money. Almost every tournament at Mason every school in the reason receives a share. I have been to many Regional tournament draws and it is rare for anyone to raise any concerns and vote to keep the same format as last year. Tell your coaches or AD to speak up and have some ideas. It is just not Mason's tournament, the tournament belongs to all eight teams that are lucky enough to play. Just some background on the tourney and was just wondering when the tourney become so terrible. I don't believe Mason Administration has forgot how to run the tourney.

Think alot has to do with the internet. News travels so much faster now. As far as concerns raised at the regional tourney draw, I am sure things will be brought up this year. You stated one of the big problems. Mason fans wasn't going to move...no way. If they are not the home team, then they should. Mason Co should not use the home locker room, if they are not the home team....but they always have. These are just some of the issues that are not run right. Do not put the oppossing teams cheering section behind the other teams bench. This is when Mason Co Fans/cheering section should have sit on the other side last year. The Mason Co tourney directors knew this but refused to take the correct action. We did not have any of these problem at the BOK or Montgomery Co.

When I said Mason fans were not going to move I only meant students in the cheering section. The adults will sit wherever Mason section is. The rest of the gym is fair game. I know Mason fans have sit on the front row of the opposite side and has been asked not to do it. When they do they are watched during the game. I totally agree with fans sitting where they draw and Mason being Visitor on the scoreboard but Mason should dress in their own locker room. That just causes less problems. You don't want your arch enemy dressing in your house with no one watching them. Remember the Montgomery and BOK were built in the last five years and not in the late fifties and early sixties. I am sure these places have better and more locker rooms and if they didn't someone really screwed up.

I also think the internet is one of the reasons. Things in life are so much faster than it used to, news travels faster, sites such as one allow instant news. Fans can communicate instantly, not when they just occasionally ran into each other at different games. The other thing is the new gyms have given places to compare to the Fieldhouse. People can see that it doesn't have to be way it was, there are options.

Where they going to dress...in the parking lot... Are all the other teams in the region your arch enemy? Agree with you on making the students section set according to home or visitor. Disagree on the dressing rooms. How many dressing room do you have? Don't you also have some down stair?

I am sure that this has been a long standing issue for many years until the Montgomery County Gym & BOK came online. The Fieldhouse is a great place to play basketball, and watch a tournament. I think to have no advantage of the seating assignment, locker rooms, student section placement and of course; popcorn. Let the contest happen only on the floor where it is meant to be played.

 

And finally - Run the Tournament as you would want it run if it was at another facility.

imo the student section placements are a big deal. The locker room assignments are not unless one team has to walk half a mile and the other walks 10 feet.

For what it's worth, the 10th has apparently been at the Fieldhouse 43 times in the last 46 years. Mason County has won 12 of those tournaments, which accounts for just over 25% of the championships. Here is the rest of the list; my question becomes, is Mason County winning because of home-court advantage or because they are the better team? The next two big winners are Harrison County and Clark County, who I would consider the next two best 10th region teams traditionally. And of course there's an absence of northern Kentucky teams, but that is due in part to them not being in the region for nearly as long.

 

1. Mason County (12 championships - 27.9%)

2. Harrison County (7 - 16.3%)

3. Clark County (6 - 13.9%)

4. Maysville (4 - 9.3%; school closed)

5. Fleming County & Pendleton County (3 each - 6.9%)

7. Bath County & Bourbon County (2 each)

9. Bishop Brossart, Campbell County, Montgomery County, & Paris (1 each)

 

It would appear to me that the best team in the 10th region usually wins the tournament, regardless of the where the games are held.

I don't care who sits where, which dressing rooms are used or what the food is like if GRC can't win it this year, they should get rid of their Coach. Period. Mason just lost 2 games at home over the past weekend, so much for that great home court advantage. Maybe Humphrey needs some advice from Allen Feldhaus Jr.

You still just don't get it do you. Where or when Mason wins has NOTHING to do with what this thread is discussing. The thread is about the few things that Mason needs to correct, student seating, etc. Everyone agrees Mason has won everywhere. :deadhorse:
