2011 - 10th Region Tournament Structure

Featured Replies

Man oh man people crying all the time on here. What happens if GRC gets beat this year? Will the popcorn be too salty? The price to get in too high? This is the bottom line if Clark Co would find a way to win the region this talk is not happening.
Id say they better have a sucide watch in Winchester if that team Fails Again at winning it..Because they graduate basically everybody that does much...

How about Mason Co/tourney directors run the 10th Regional tourney the way it is supposed to be run and not like the Mason Co Invitational....Problem solved.:thumb:

I still think you should run the show, or figure out a way to host in Winchester.

If Gold Sunrise did get the chance to run it, all the things we talked about would handled and run accordingly.

Never a doubt in my mind:popcorn:

What is wrong with Mason Co running it the way it should be???

All teams and fans sitting to the way they drew. Home team on the score board would get the home team dressing room and fans would sit on the home team side. Why, because this is the REGIONAL TOURNEY. Students that acted the way they did to opposing players and coaches would be removed. And talk about a hospitality room, you should have seen the party I catered for my husbands birthday.:D

Bottom line, this is the regional tourney, learn from your mistakes over the years and give the teams and fans the tourney they ALL deserve.

The tournament is just fine. Win it and talk ceases. Best tournament in March.

Unfortunately, a lot disagree with the way it was ran last year. Run it the right way and a lot of the talk goes away. Can anyone name another Regional tournament that has the home student section behind the visiting teams bench? Can anyone name a college team that allows this to occur? hmmmm wonder why? Safety? Sportsmanship? Fairness for a supposed neutral tournament?

The 10th Region is a great tournament. So is the 7th, 9th, 12th and 13th. Didn't see students sitting behind either teams benches and the atmosphere is top notch!

The 10th region is a great tournament wherever it is held. The teams, players, coaches and fans have a whole lot to do with that. But their are correctable issues with the way it is being handled at the Fieldhouse to make it even better. Since the tournament has been held their seemingly since the good Dr. Naismith invented the game, a generation or two of Mason County fans have grown up knowing no different. I know it was held at Montgomery and the BOK recently, but before that when was it not at Mason. I remember going to one at GRC when I was a kid in the late 60's, I think. These fans are under the understanding that their way is perfect and the only way. We are not saying they should never host the tourney, because it is a great atmoshpere for a high school game, but it could be even better for the rest of the fans with a few tweaks.

So when Mason County went about 7 years without winning a regional, mid 90's til that Lofton guy came along, I guess the homecourt advantage didn't apply then? Does it only apply when they win?

If I remember correctly, Clark County led the entire game last year, outplayed the Royals and were a better team. I guess homecourt only applied when Clark County started making dumb decisions on offense, then that homecourt thing kicked in.

OR is it homecourt like a couple years ago when Clark County was given 3 free throws on a foul called at half court to end the game.

There are other options now, the districts will likely vote to rotate this between the 3 buildings, PROBLEM SOLVED! Oh yeah, the Royals have still won 3 straight regionals on 3 different courts.

Just because you play a game at home doesn't mean you always win, but it does help you to play at home.

One could argue that the teams fielded by Mason in the years prior to Loften were not good enough to win even with home court advantage. One could argue that the GRC breakdown at the end of the game last year was the result of the the crowd, students, etc. from a home court advantage. One could agrue that no one ever calls that foul on the desperation 3 at the end of the game and that it was a result of home court advantage. Home court it an intangible so you can't prove it directly effects any game at any given moment. Whoever hosts the tournament will have that intangible home court advantage as long as it is not at the neutral BOK. Home court advantage is not the point of most of the post in this thread. THe point is the things above and beyond that, students behind the visitor bench, not sitting on the visitor side if you are the visiting team, etc. Those are the points that need to be addressed. The only answer most Mason fans have is that they won for the last 3 years on 3 different courts. That in itself does not justify the placement of students and refusing to be treated as the visiting team unless your point is that to the victor goes the spoils.

All of these points about where the 10th region tournament is held, the arguing, etc. may all become mute for the Montgomery County and Clark County fans that post because doesn't the realignment talk still have Clark County going to the 11th region and Montgomery to the 16th next season. Isn't the 11 region tournament held at Memorial Gym and the 16th held at Morehead? So these two may never have to deal with the Fieldhouse or Mason County again after this season.:dancingpa

But that still doesn't mean the issue won't exist for all the other teams.

They just can't see that it isn't a GRC issue or a Montgomery issue. It is an issue for any team that still has to play under these conditions. GRC and Montgomery just happen to be the most vocal. Whoever replaces them will still have to endure the way it is handled.
