Tough crowd in Independence! SK had their best player in street clothes and another starter in a cast. I think SK really misses Nick Gray and his senior leadership especially in a big rivalry game. Gray is an all out effort player and that is tough to replace. SK can get healthy and make a run in the 8th Region and this night will all be forgotten. Steiner is a good coach and an even better person. If he thinks he needed to send a message to his players about playing harder and with more intensity then what better game than Scott/SK?

I have seen coaches take kids out to prove a point and you sit them for 2 or 3 minutes then put them back in and see if it worked. How do these boys get to prove that they undersatnd what the coach wants if they dont get back into the game and try to make up for being out hustled. I think coaches get caught up into the game and get to mad and think the game is for them and not the kids. Coaches also have to realize fans pay money to see the game and if a JV squad has already played then dont take away from the Varsity kids. I remember watching a game and the J.V got drilled by another J.V team then in the Varsity game the coach took the Varsity kids out and put J.V. who couldnt even beat the J.V. team. Coaches dont coach to make sure Mom and Pop or the fans are entertained to the fullest. They coach to try to win games and teach lessons to the young men who are out there representing their school as well as themselves. If coach Steiner wanted to send a message in ONE game get over it, that is why they hired him because they feel he can not just win games but teach the kids life lessons. Im sure it stinks to pay to get in and have to watch that but look at the bigger picture.

It is a shame that someone would get on here and their first post is to get a coach fired!!! Steiner does a good job at Simon Kenton, they win their district every year and compete for a Region Title. His kids always act classy and they usually play hard. Steiner definately does not like to lose so for him to bench the starters there had to be a good reason! Don't overreact to one game, see what happens over the next 4 weeks and i bet Simon Kenton wins 18-20 games, has a District Championship and gets to atleast the Regional Semifinals. That is a pretty good year!

Until you walk in the coaches shoes be careful how you judge him or her. I have seen many coaches criticized on here for their behavior with their team and right or wrong he or she is the coach and probably deserves the benefit of doubt on how they handle the situation. It is after all a meaningless out of region game to him and may prove to be useful in preparing his team for a game that does matter.

 

Funny reading previous threads of yours that coaches should always be given the benefit of the doubt but not the refs. :idunno:

Coach Steiner and Coach Carr are both excellent coaches that get bashed on here far too much. Parents need to wake up and realize that coaches want to win just as much as they do.

Steiner is a very good coach..He is as intense as anyone and if he sees a need to sit the starters than so be it..Get over it and move on..

Why is everybody in an uproar? When is the last time SK beat Scott in varsity basketball anyway? I don't have a dog in the fight but if I had choose which coach I would want my son to play for it would be Coach Carr hands down. Why you ask? Plain and simple he is the better coach! I've watched a lot of basketball in NKY and around the state and his teams always play hard, they always hustle, always prepared regardless of talent level. It's not rocket science to understand what his expectations are - lay it ALL on the line or SIT. There are so many coaches that are inconsistent with why they pull somebody in a game it's a joke. From what I've seen no matter if it's his star player or last person coming off the bench coach Carr is consistent with what his expectations are. As for coach Steiner well the region they play in is not necessarily the toughest compared to others and he also gets quite a bit talent each year.....honestly I'm a little disappointed that they don't go farther each year in the region...STAY ClASSY NKY!

We are hoping Nick will return middle of Feb. Dr. Colosemo says he is where he should be as far as recovery. He gets the pin removed Monday the 17th so we will find out more then. As for Coach Steiner, look at the hand he was dealt. We have several Sophs and Juniors with little or no varsity experience playing major minutes. And we all know young players are what? Inconsistent! And oh by the way they have played most of the season without their leading scorer(Cody) and another starter(Nick). So IMO they are still learning to play together. Let's call them a work in progress! Where would Dixie be if you took Hatton and Pike or Stansberry out of the mix? The objective is to be peaking in Feb. and March not January.

Agreed. We all are passionate about sports, or we would not be part of BGP. I don't have a dawg in this thread either----but I hope all these student atheletes are being encouraged to also work on something else called a "Back-Up Plan"!

 

I hope that whoever started this thread is NOT a player---and that it won't get traced back to that individual. Could end up being a whole lot more "bench time" for that player if it does!!
