Rent cost and property value keep many people from being able to afford to live in many areas. As far as the second comment, a St. X vs. Dayton matchup would be a wonderful thing to see in the playoffs.

Funny...I've rented all my life in Louisville so that I would have enough money to send my kids to Assumption and Trinity (and then UE, but that's another story. :lol:)

I've said for several years that the way to ensure parity in the state's biggest class (4A before 2007 and 6A since then) would be to force both Trinity and St. Xavier to split into two schools. Then we would have all the parity we would ever want.

 

It's strictly a hypothetical proposal because it will never happen ... Trinity and St. Xavier don't want to give up the numbers advantage they enjoy on their competitors.

I guess so if you mean that a school that depends on students who's families must pay money for them to attend strives to produce excellence in all areas (including athletics) is "exploiting" their advantage. Personally, I find/found it to be the expected return on investment. Do we enjoy the excellence produced? Absolutely? Are we ashamed of it? No. I suspect there aren't many who are ashamed of their respective successes when they've put a lot of effort into them, regardless of the numbers or the finances.

 

I will also say that advantages are created, not given. I doubt that Trinity or X could be successful if they didn't offer value for the money a family spends to send their kids to either. They don't educate only the elite. There are many people like you and I who work hard to send their kids there and have higher expectations than some for whom money is no object.

And your choice of phraseology and use of the word "exploit" imply that there is something sinister about Trinity's success. A few things come to mind:

 

1) In my opinion, a school whether grade school, middle school, or high school, should strive for excellence in all areas including athletics. Nothing sinister about that, or exploitative, whether the school is public, private, single sex or co-ed.

2) If Trinity (specifically) enjoys their "exploitation" of the system, why do they seek opponents such as Cincy X, Elder, etc for OOD competition? It's not like Trinity is looking fro the Little Sisters of the Poor to play. They're seeking the best. Part of it has to do with the fact that in-state schools won't play them, or the schedules can't be meshed. But even so, one would think Trinity could find easier competition than the Bombers, et. al.

3) We've had this "discussion" before. Why are we doing it again? :lol:
