The Elite 8? Wow, super impressive.....or not...

 

To UK standards, when the barometer is only if you won a championship, I guess not impressive. Maybe to UL, since they have not won a championship in 25 years, that would be impressive. But, when you are one of the top 8 teams out of 347 in the country, with 4 players who started year never playing a college game, that is impressive to me. But good thing Kentucky doesn't settle for one of the best, they want to be THE best.

Wow... not making the tournament one year and losing to Louisville compared TO making it to the elite 8 the next year and beating Louisville ... I would say that that recruiting class made a significant impact... it's called context, read what I wrote and you might realize that part was insignificant. My point was that sports like basketball can have 1 superstar stand out of make a larger impact as opposed to football. I thought you may be able to understand that analogy... or not...

And as much as I respect and appreciate Trinity and Highlands programs, winning a state title with only 30 or so teams in a class does not blow me away. Obviously, the two teams can only compete with what they are dealt, but when you compare these two programs to Ohio's, who have at least 115 teams per class, it's no comparison. I believe each team would have some state titles though.

 

Surprisingly, I just looked at Ohio's enrollment and it looks like Trinity and St Xavier have larger boys enrollment than any other school in Ohio. This kind of shocked me.

Another point lost in this thread.....people love to say if Trinity and Highlands were in Ohio how many titles would they have? They often take into account the kids that we currently have (let me be clear, I don't want to trade our kids), BUT, if we were up there, we'd obviously have some of their kids, and with our coaches, I believe we'd be top dog in the GCL.

Highlands actually proves the point that numbers doesn't equal dominance.

Sorry, shouldn't have just picked on UL. Many other basketball teams would be thrilled with an elite 8. Kentucky taking a team with one returning starter to the elite 8 is impressive to me, but to Kentucky coaches and die hard fans, only National Championships matter. Just like Trinity and Highlands, only championships matter.

 

I remember going to college and hearing kids bragging about winning a sectional or regional championship and thought, "what's that."

Lets recap... I started by talking about how 1 good player could make a basketball team and have an immediate impact which is different from football. I used an analogy of UK basketball immediately improving by a lot with 1 recruiting class. You, a Louisville fan, took a shot at UK by saying something about an elite 8 not being impressive, so I added to my previous comment. UK lost to Louisville (rival) and didn't make the tournament 1 year, then with a coaching change and one of the best recruiting classes of all time (NBA talent-wise), UK beat Louisville (rival) and not only made the tournament, but made it to the elite 8 which is a drastic improvement from the previous year. You tried to take a stab at UK, so I took a stab at Louisville, You tried to make fun of UK for only making the elite 8 with all that talent, I made fun of Louisville for still losing to UK despite not impressing you by only making it to the elite 8. I think that is pretty darn clear. I know you are a Louisville fan by your "location".

Trinity is the unquestioned best team in Kentucky, but if they were in the GCL (which is the toughest conference in the country), they might be the top dog at times, but certainly not all the time, oh, and that is step one, then you have decent squads like Colerain and Middleton awaiting, and then to cap off things with some of the best teams in the country from the Cleveland area-like Glenville or Cleveland St. Ignatius. Then you win the big boy crown up there. In Kentucky, once the Rocks have knocked off the Tigers, 9 times out of 10, it's time to clear space for the trophy.

 

Honestly in Kentucky there are usually 4 teams in 6A that even have hope to win the title.

Since it seems as if these 2 schools are just going to keep winning championships in KY and almost no one can beat them, how many titles would they have in the great football state of OH in their appropriate classes????

 

No one will ever know for sure but I would guess less than 3- too much depth in OH!!!

Highlands plays mediocre competition in their class in Kentucky, thus the 19 soon to be 20 championships. Trinity has played the best competion available in Kentucky due to their classification and is so dominant and progressive under Coach Beatty, they would have faired well in Ohio.

So the best from HHS and NCC would beat us?

I am not saying Highlands could not win occasionally against higher level competition as they have consistently done in the past by scheduling such schools.

 

However, if you put them against tough competition in their class year end and year out, I do not feel they would fair so well in their class in Ohio.

Man your a funny guy:laugh: If you lay it all out on the table what HHS does year in and year out is much more impressive than what Trinity does. I don't even think it is close..Don't get me wrong Trinity is a great program, but not better than HHS..JMO
