Really? You might want to check some areas again. Not everyone can afford a 100K home. Not everyone can afford 600 plus a month rent. This statement is fairly outlandish.

 

I can tell you in Fort Thomas, there are houses for $50,000 or under and rent for less than $600. Now are those great houses and your dream place to live? Probably not, but you wouldn't have to pay tuition to a private school and your kids would get one of the best educations in the state of KY. There was an article a few months ago about how Fort Thomas school district needs their tuition students to meet their budget. The tuition students bring in about $500.000 a year to the school district. There were about 160 tuition paying students. The problem Fort Thomas Independent Schools has, is people using addresses of Fort Thomas to send their kids to school there but actually do not live in the city.

I went back and looked at every year Highlands has won a state championship. I compared Trinity and St. Xavier to Highlands in those years and given all the facts, if all three were in the same class, Highlands would have zero championships.

Highlands was ranked in the top 10 in almost every national poll and neither Trinity or St. X were... Highlands beat a common opponent in Cincy X and both Trinity and Louisville X lost to.

 

Another off the top of my head is 1998 where Male won the state championship and Highlands beat Male earlier that season.

 

I dont know what you looked at but you must have not looked up very little if anything at all.

 

(This is not a bash on Trinity or X, I am just stating facts in response to a post)

 

Rough enrollment numbers of boys according to wikipedia:

 

St. X - 1,456

Trinity - 1,400

Highlands - 400

 

If you took half of Trinity or St. X's enrollment of boys then they would still be much much larger than Highlands. Highlands has zero advantage over any school. Go to highlands-bluebirds.com and you may realize how underrated Highlands is considering it is a small public school.

Highlands is not LUCKY to be in a smaller class. There is no luck involved. Infact if you added 1,000 more boys for Highlands to pick from then they would most likely be much better. If you want to go by that thinking then Trinity and St. X are lucky that Highlands doesn't have 1,400 boys as well.

 

I realize that the larger classes are usually more difficult, but the larger classes also have an advantage that smaller classes don't, ENROLLENT NUMBERS. I would compare Campbellsville College. I bet they would do much worse if they played in the SEC. Why? Mainly because the SEC schools have advantages that Campbellsville doesn't.

 

It also goes both ways, if you want to be the best you have to beat the best, for Trinity or X to play Highlands or Highlands to play Trinity or X. Most of the time the better schools are in Cincinnati rather than Louisville.

The KHSAA can't force any school, public or private, to split into two or thirty schools.

 

And Trinity & X won't split, not because of their numbers advantage on competitors, because realistically, 12-1500 students is not an unweildly number to work with.

 

You keep posting statements like the above, and we'll all think you believe that Trinity & X exist for the sole purpose of football dominance. Of course, there are other sports we don't dominate...but hey...who wants to look at the whole picture.

 

I'm not disagreeing with anything. But, I feel it necessary to say that a significant numbers advantage would be provide the biggest boost in a sport like football where you have 11 starters on each side of the ball and special teams units. Depth and the luxury of not being forced to play guys on both sides of the ball is a huge advantage in high school football. In a sport like basketball where one guy can carry a team and you don't switch offense and defense, I think it can be negated much easier. JMO

You can find plenty of homes in Ft. Thomas that are affordable and livable for whatever price you can afford, if that is where you want to send your kids to school!

Split Trinity into THREE schools and how do you think they would do in 6A? It's like HHS playing in 1A, of course we would have probably 40 titles. So how come T ONLY has 19?

 

If we split in three, I would imagine, being open enrollment and all, that one third would still have all the best players. I imagine we'd perform admirably.

Another point has been on my mind. Another hypothetical team. Take the 100 boys from HHS the 50 Boys from NCC. Let's see what size school is that? Maybe larger Class 4? THat team beats EVERYONE in Kentucky for # of hypothetical championships. THe HHS and NCC boys can all be found in about a 5 to 8 mile radius. BEST FOOTBALL IN N.KY.!!! actually Northern part of Campbell County !!!!!! GO BREDS GO BIRDS !

 

So the best from HHS and NCC would beat us?

I would compare it to Kentucky basketball last year where the recruiting class comes in and takes a team to the next level.

I beg to differ that enrollment is not such a factor in winning and Highlands is the perfect example- they are the best in NKY and one of the top 2-3 in the state every year and are an average sized school- it takes so much more than numbers!!!!!!!

 

Highlands actually proves the point that numbers doesn't equal dominance.

OK, now imagine if these Louisville schools were attractive enough for the best of their boys to come out for football...is it our our fault that our best feel that football is what they want to do?
