November 22, 201015 yr Thanksgiving is easily my favorite holiday and I always look forward to it every year. Especially after last year because I had been on the road for about two months and it was the first time that I truly felt the "going home for the holidays" feeling. So, do you and your family have any Thanksgiving traditions?
November 22, 201015 yr Flag Football game. Our family has been playing it for about 18 years. It was covered by the KY Post in '06.
November 22, 201015 yr All my family tries to get together at my mom's for dinner then after dinner we draw names for Christmas.
November 23, 201015 yr We have to perform to eat. Poem, song, instrument, extemporaneous, magic trick, comedy routine, all things tried in the past 6 or 7 years. Not really all that good, but more interesting then your average Thanksgiving get together. We also had a pecan pie contest for my benefit, but this year we will not have grandma's sorghum molasses pecan pie, she passed away in June.
November 23, 201015 yr Macy's Thanksgiving day parade in the morning (although I always seem to get bored and switch to a movie!) family time with the in-laws in the afternoon, my family in the evening, turkey induced coma with Football at night. My favorite holiday as well!
November 23, 201015 yr If I am in town I go out to a local bar to see all the people visiting the Wednesday before. The morning of I like to work out so that my gluttony does not fully sweat through my face at meal time. We have an organized run this year but it looks like I may have to cancel it due to rain. Last year I competed in what I feel will be an every other year tradition in Cary, NC - the local Turkey Trot 8K. This year Murray State will be playing vs. Stanford on ESPNU, so that will coincide with the only thing I am sure to do every Thanksgiving evening, which is warm up leftovers.
November 23, 201015 yr Hofbrahaus the night before with friends...Been going down there for the past 2-3 years, and will be there again this year. Sleep off the hangover, eat a ton of food, watch football, eat more food, sleep.
November 23, 201015 yr The women go shopping and me and my Dad go to the Egg Bowl, although now it's played on Saturdays. At one point in time it was Thanksgiving day, then on Friday's and now it's back to a Saturday game.
November 23, 201015 yr My tradition is avoiding the family at all costs. Not a big holiday person, the next month can fly by for all I care. :lol: No, I'm not scrooge, I don't mind getting a gift or two for those close to me, but the overall "experience" of the holidays, no thanks.
November 23, 201015 yr For a number of years played "survivor golf" with my sons....no matter what the weather, we would play golf till one of us gave up. Then we would have Thanksgiving dinner, watch football and nap. For second year in a row will be going to hook up with all the kids and new grandchild in Birmingham....I guess it is a new tradition.
November 23, 201015 yr My mom's sisters always come down from Iowa, and we gather up and go to my dad's sister's place in Madison, Ind., for the family gathering. Usually my dad's two sisters get really loaded, which makes for great laughs. A longstanding family tradition has always been to go to Churchill Downs for the day after Thanksgiving, avoiding the foolishness of the Black Friday shoppers. Hopefully some good fortune will befall me this Friday. Grandpa always loved to go to the track, even after diabetes claimed his sight. I could barely tippy-toe high enough to hand my bet to the tellers the first time I ever went to the track. Hopefully he'll guide my hand to the right horses.
