November 23, 201015 yr Author I always go to Grandpa's for Thanksgiving, and we usually do "leftovers up there on Friday's which means a whole different Turkey. Good times. They always have a Christmas parade on Friday too and a lighting of the town square. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday just because I enjoy spending the extra time with grandpa without all the extra running around for Christmas. I'm kinda with HC when it comes to that...could skip right over it. That started to change a little for me, but I'm back to that lol.
November 23, 201015 yr I believe this year will begin a new tradition for my family. On Thanksgiving day itself, it will be the same. My kids will be with their dad, and the dogs and I will watch a ton of movies and eat something. But the real fun begins on Friday, because I'm going to Evansville to help my son and daughter-in-law move into their new house, and then on Saturday, we're doing our Thanksgiving together there. Then, we'll be motoring down to Leitchfield on Sunday to spend the day with my parents.
November 23, 201015 yr Hofbrahaus the night before with friends...Been going down there for the past 2-3 years, and will be there again this year. Sleep off the hangover, eat a ton of food, watch football, eat more food, sleep. We are still trying to figure out a place to go but every place will be so packed it will be nuts. Tv,eat,sleep, repeat on constant loop.

We've been having to get there by around 8ish the past couple years, and we've gotten tables. Wait much later than that, and you've got almost no chance at getting an inside spot at least.

That's why at Hofbra at least, if you get a table it's key, because you have at least one waitress. Plus no cover there, while most places jump it to at least $10.
November 23, 201015 yr My mom's sisters always come down from Iowa, and we gather up and go to my dad's sister's place in Madison, Ind., for the family gathering. Usually my dad's two sisters get really loaded, which makes for great laughs. A longstanding family tradition has always been to go to Churchill Downs for the day after Thanksgiving, avoiding the foolishness of the Black Friday shoppers. Hopefully some good fortune will befall me this Friday. Grandpa always loved to go to the track, even after diabetes claimed his sight. I could barely tippy-toe high enough to hand my bet to the tellers the first time I ever went to the track. Hopefully he'll guide my hand to the right horses. I have done the Churchill thing a couple times on the Friday following. Great day to be at the track.

This year we are switching around the eating times and I don't have to be somewhere until 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. I'm seriously considering attending Turkey Kick again.

November 24, 201015 yr One thing that usually happens at Thanksgiving is my family plays cards. Down at my Dad's it is ALWAYS Buckpitch. At my Granny and Granddaddy's (Mom's side) we play Rook. At Mom's it is either one of those or Cribbage.
