They played one great half and congrats to the Colonels. I really believe the losing years at CC will be a thing of the past starting next year. Nope. You play to win the game. Coach Wirth probably said it the best. It's a loss with a little silver lining. You can like the positives, but the negative the negatives can't be looked over. I don't think anyone on CCH's team went into the game last night thinking "Man I hope we keep it close".

 

I couldn't make the game on Friday because I was in my younger brother's wedding, but based on the score of the game, I'd have to say that everybody in the Cov Cath community - including the team - was breathing a sigh of relief that the game wasn't a blowout. They showed that they are better than some of the scores of their previous games have implied, and that is a reason to be happy. Still, I have to go with the "no such thing as a moral victory". A loss is a loss. At the end of the year, a loss of 7 points still gets tallied in the same column as a loss of 61 points.

 

Coach Wirth's words seem to echo those of Coach Ray's from the days when I was playing, "You have to go into a game expecting to win, or you've lost already. A win is a win, and a loss is still a loss. You can build from the positive points in any game, but accepting anything less than a win gets you nowhere."

You are quite incorrect if you think Cov could beat Ryle this year.

NO way CovCath would view this as a moral victory. They prepared expecting to win. They are beyond moral victories as a program. At the same time, they have to be very pleased with their effort and performance.

 

I agree 100%. I am not a Cov Cath or Highlands fan, but I did grow up playing ball against both programs and I understand their rich tradition and the pride these programs have. Cov Cath will NEVER be happy and view any game as a moral victory, at Cov Cath it is expected to win every game regardless of who you are playing, I am sure these young men are upset and would love another chance. Cov is 5A and Ryle is 6A. They won't play again this year. I am not trying to disrespect Cov or how far many of their young player have come. I am simply saying that I don't think they could beat Ryle this year. For this season, Ryle is better up front than Cov.
