Cov. Cath outplayed the Birds tonight. Much respect for a great effort. I miss that kind of play in the Birds. So, to answer your question, Cov Cath came to Ft. Thomas and won even though they lost.......and the Birds know they won the mental game.

I've never understood why people get upset with the term "moral victory." Heck yeah this was a moral victory and it can be used as a stepping stone.

 

I do find it odd that the only team that seemed to make mistakes tonight was Highlands.

HHS was called for a total of eight penalties, for a total loss of 54 yards. In all my years of watching HHS play and I have seen HHS play 3 times this season, I don't remember a HHS team earning so many penalties in games week after week.

 

The JV game between CovCath and HHS at 10am @ CovCath on Saturday October 16 should be a great game to watch.

Here's a question, and I ask this mainly because I don't know what it's like to play for a football team in a big rivalry game:

 

Do the players for a team that's a decided underdog go into a rivalry game thinking/expecting they are going to win despite the odds against it, or are they thinking deep down that they're probably gonna lose, and the only matter left to be decided is the final scoring margin?

 

I suppose if the CCH players came into this game actually believing they were going to win, then this close loss must be disappointing to them and not a "moral victory." If they thought they were probably gonna lose, then it may very well be a "moral victory," given that the game literally came down to the final play. I know crazy things can happen when HHS plays CCH, but I would never have guessed this game would have been so close. I wonder if many of the CCH players feel the same way?

Absolutely, even though this is still a loss for Cov Cath, they overcame a lot of adversity. Nearly all people I have spoken with thought Highlands was going to win in blowout fashion. Cov Cath should be proud of the game that they played, while they can use this as a valuable learning experience for the rest of the season.

If you consider losing to your rivals a victory then so be it. To add onto this question, are moral victories good?

Not a believer in moral victories and neither are the coaches, players, or for that matter, the fans of CovCath but in saying that, how can you not be proud of the effort given by the Colonels. :clap:

 

When was the last time that a HHS team walked off the field after a game and knew (IMHO) that they were out played, out hustled and yes out coached? :idunno:

 

Yes HHS won the game and as they say a win is a win but.........

Cov Cath played well. They took advantage of what the Birds were willing to give them. A job well done!! For the Birds....TOO MANY MISTAKES! Birds will learn from it and get better for it.

Looking at it from another perspective, could this game be a 'moral defeat' for the Bluebirds? If they came into this game with the only question being when would the running clock start, and how much playing time would the 2nd and 3rd string get, what effect does the game have on them? Are they now worried about being the team remembered for ending the streak? I would hate for all the 20n10 paraphenalia to have to be sold at a discount store!

Why a moral loss for Highlands? I didn't hear of any player being upset at Dixie Chili last night after the victory.
