Are schools required to play their varsity district foes in JV and Freshman football? One would think Simon Kenton (or anyone else) could fill out their JV and Frosh schedules with all local teams.

 

No they are not required.

Has it gone to the BOC yet? I may be wrong, but I thought the proposed alignment came from the commissioner's office and will be voted on by the BOC next week after they take into account the responses from the member schools.

 

It was pointed out that the 32 team limit for 1A and 6A was a BOC vote. Since it is that action that is causing the major class realignments that is what I was referring to.

 

Now the commissioner is not supposed to have a totally free hand in the make up districts based on KHSAA Tournament rules (yes, the make up of classes, districts is only defined in the 'tournament' rules of KHSAA) - here.

 

Section I.C.4 on the second page (page #77) indicates that travel distances shall be the primary decision point. To their credit, this is why SK pointed out 0.5 mile difference when it got grouped with the Fayette schools - since not other criteria is specified it was the only 'by the book' argument they had.

 

Also, if the Louisville schools so choose it will be interesting to see if they claim the Louisville realignments were arbitrary decisions by the commissioner's office. Since nothing really changed between 2007 and 2010 for those four districts there is no non-arbitrary reason for that realignment. And being arbitrary is unconstitutional.

 

BTW, the referenced document is for the 2009- 2010 year. I do not believe 2011 or later is posted. If someone has that that would help. Maybe they changed I.C.2. They actions of the BOC to limit 1A and 6A definitely impacted the actual content of the document.

It would be 4 trips because of JV games. This something that is often overlooked.

I really think what you have above is the best idea, especially if it's about geography, but only if Ohio county does in fact want to move up.

 

Question if SK joined a 5 squad NKY district and Ohio county did in fact request to move up where would they be placed? Would they be put in the Lexington district with the other 2 Lex schools and Scott County or would the districts have to be arranged even further. If it would require further moving of teams to accomodate the addition of Ohio county then I just don't see this ever happening and that's even if they still want to be a part of 6A which now seems to be in question all together.

 

It really doesn't affect SK in basketball. Last year, SK played 11 games vs. 8th Region teams.

 

Nine of those games were against Gallatin County, Walton-Verona, Grant County, or Williamstown - all NKY teams.

 

One game was against Oldham County, but it was played in Independence last year. (SK did come to Buckner in 2008-9).

 

The only other 8th Region games were two games in the 8th region tourney itself.

I do not have a dog in the fight. But for a top flight program, I don't find that list all too impressive. There are some solid programs on there and some who are decent but surely not daunting.
