They are the best team in the lower three classes.

 

I think so, too - although NewCath, Somerset and P-T (they're the first that come to mind) have legit claims as well.

 

I honestly don't think Mayfield would fare well against Bell County in 4A or several of the 5A and 6A schools. But it's fun to speculate.

I think Mayfield could win any of the first three classes. 5A Highlands and Bowling Green and 4A Bell Co, Boyle Co. ect. That would be a BIG streach. Basically end of story!!

Haven't seen Mayfield so I don't want to comment on how good they are, but it'd be extremely tough for them to beat Newcath this year.

They should have a excellent shot at 2 and 3A. We have been waiting for this team for several years. last year was a pleasant suprise and most of that team is back. The key is the Cards QB who does not get the credit he deserves. He makes the offense hum and they have a solid group of recievers, linemen and backs. I also want to tell all of you to take not of soph Jonathan Jackson, he may turn out to be the best player Mayfield has produced in the last 20 years

 

The QB is the key to the whole thing. He doesn't make mistakes. he is intelligent off the field (35 on ACT) and on the field.

 

Guhy is a very good athlete. Plays not only football but basketball and baseball. Plus if his team is up enough at half he plays in the band at halftime.

I think Mayfield would have a good shot at beating NCC but Mayfield would be the underdog IMO. That is no slight to Mayfield who is clearly the heavy favorite in 1A like LCA was last year. That is more a statement of how good New Cath looks this year. I don't know the teams in 3A well enough to comment on Mayfield's chances there. As to the comment about beating Highlands, if that post was not made sarcastically then please get real. Highlands is on their own level right now and Mayfield would not stay within 3 TD's of them.

If what you say in the bold is the case, how is it that the consensus seems to be that 2A is completely wide open? You're not engaging in some of that Northern Ky. groupthink that tends to dominate this board, are you?

I think it's because not many people have seen Newcath outside of NKY.

 

I have now seen Newcath against Ryle, Covcath, and Madison Central and these Breds are the real deal.

 

They have a stable of running backs in Kelly, Cain, and Harris to complement a dual threat QB in Hightchew.

 

On the offensive line, the strong side goes 6'7 260 and 6'10 330....did I mention they're both pretty good?

 

I'd be very surprised if Newcath didn't win 2A this year. No 1A or 2A team should be able to stop their rushing attack.

From everything I've read on here and elsewhere, Ryle and CovCath ain't exactly wowing people. And Madison Central is way down. I have a great deal of respect for the NewCath program having grown up in NoKy, especially the fact they take on all comers in the area regardless of school size. But could it be that they've been flattered a bit by their opposition?

 

How many 2A teams have you seen outside of NoKy? Part of the problem with the NoKy groupthink is that most folks from NoKy think driving to Walton is a long trip, so there's little frame of reference when it comes to everyone else outside I-275.

Trust me, I chose my name on here for a reason, no pun intended. I am not into hype. New Cath is very good this year. They have a lot of athletes and the big boys on the line, as Walter mentioned. As I said, I am not selling Mayfield short at all. I think they are a heavy favorite in 1A this year. But I also think New Cath is proving themselves the favorite in 2A. I think it would be a heck of a game if Mayfield and New Cath faced each other.
