Other than Scott will CovCath win another game?

Featured Replies

Here's my suggestion. Parents anonymously questioning coaches at CCH has proven to be an embarrassment and a detriment to the program. Let's not repeat history.

Which made me think of another question (probably should start another thread), but how much really different is Cov. Cath right now now than they were two (2) years ago. Through the same number of games Dave Brossart was I think 8-9 and I believe Wirth is 9-8. The schedules are similar between the 2 year periods with one notable exception, Elder a game that history says was not winable for the Colonels was replaced by Lex. Cath a game that was winnable.

All in all goes to show you that:

- The 4 year swoon at Cov. Cath. is more about the talent level on the field than who was on the sideline.

- Coach Rodenberg got out at exactly the right time and probably knew what the next few years looked like.

- Help appears to be on the way with the Colonels 9th and 10th grade classes, but that doesn't mean next year will be much better than the past 4 years.

This is a tired debate but I'll answer your questions.

Most people realized that the talent level that CCH had in the past has not been there for a while and that includes when Dave Brossart was there. One could argue that in Dave's last year he got one more victory for the Colonels than many expected (NCC).

It was the right move for both CCH and Dave to have Dave move on. He seems to be doing well at Dixie. CCHs program seems to better overall(key) than it was when Dave was here. Call it bad timing. Call it a bad fit. Intangibles matter.

Maybe I just like beating the dead horse, similar to the beatings Brossart took on this board his last year.

Are the intangibles better now (because the record is not)?

Yes.

Such a shallow attempt tog. It is a fair question. And it cracks me up anytime a fan of a school doesn't like something I post they try to personalize it.

Face it Colonel fans, CCH isn't any better off than they were two years ago...

You may be correct that CovCath is no better off in terms of W's and L's two years later, but in fact CovCath is light years ahead of where your buddy/friend was leading them, and that is the difference and the one fact that you so choose to ignore.

Seems rather strange that this is one topic that you keep bringing up week, after week, after week, even two years later but then again, it isn't personal now is it?

I think it is pertinent to this discussion so here is the Colonels track record since 1998:

1998 ...8-5 ..Notable losses Moeller 52-13; Highlands 70-26 & 37-14

1999....4-7 ...Notable losses St. Francis DeSales OH 33-7; HHS 45-7 ....... Big wins St. X. Ky 24-14

2000....5-7 ...Notable losses SFD OH 42-19; HHS 35-10 & 49-27

2001....9-5 ...Notable losses SFD OH 36-33; HHS 35-10 ..Big wins LaSalle 41-7; HHS playoffs 18-15

2002....6-6 ...Notable losses SFD OH 34-6; Moeller 14-10; HHS 28-14

2003 ...3-8 ..Notable losses St. X. OH 21-16; Elder 49-21; Highlands 21-7

2004 ...10-3...Notable losses LaSalle 27-17; Elder 10-9; HHS ?? (Mitchell year, don't know score)

2005....7-5 ..Notable losses St. X. OH 24-0; Moeller 16-6; Col. Bishop Watterson 40-3; HHS 28-21

2006....12-3...Notable losses St. X. OH 23-3; Elder 13-3; Col. Bish Wat. 38-13 ...Big wins HHS ...........................................................................................................29-27 & 25-15

2007....5-7....Notable losses St. X. KY 3-14; Elder 35-6; LaSalle 34-7; HHS 28-14 & 40-0 ...Big wins ......................................................................................................Col. St. Charles 38-13

2008....5.7....Notable losses St. X. KY 56-0; Elder 35-6;Cardinal Mooney 57-0; HHS 61-0

2009....6-6....Notable losses St. X. KY 43-7; LaSalle 44-35; HHS 36-7

Since 1998, 5 winning seasons. CCH plays a tough schedule and the remaining games are tough.

Not personal at all.

Coach Brossart and I are acquaintances, not friends, and the only thing I have talked to him about recently are the positives at Dixie.

I see Cov Cath having 2 loses the rest of the season...or more depending on which team shows up. The good thing about last nights game was it showed that even if Bir doesn't have his best night, other components can step up and bring home a W (Defense, special teams, running game). While NCC and Dixie will not be guaranteed wins, they are both very winnable games by the Blue Colonels. Regarding the other comments about where this team is compared to two years ago, I think anyone who has been around the program for any length of time will tell you this is a program that the fans, players and school can be proud of. While wins are important (that is why they keep score) that should not be the only measuring stick of HS athletics. This is not meant as a knock on the previous coach. He is a great person and did the best he could, and unfortunately that was a 'bad hire' from the beginning. He was just not ready for the position when he got it. For you old timers, kind of like when Coach Faust went from Moeller to Notre Dame. Had success at one level but out of your element at another.

Biggest question I have for you Momma have you expressed your unhappiness in person to the coaching staff, or only on-line where no one know who you are.

True I don't have a son playing but I have found the coaching staff to be a pleasure to talk with and have found them to be more than willing to listen to anything, you might not like what they are doing but they will tell you why they are doing it!

Again..Oldguy..I don't have a dog in this race. I have no ax to call a coach and ask him what in the heck's he's doing and if you do that or even walk up and ask him...you have more in it than you will admit. this is a forum to express opinions and you always get a little testy when someone else steps on your feelings (opinions). Anyone can call it like it is. That is why it's called an opinion. And face the facts...everything is not smelling like roses over there. Parents talk and they talk and they talk. Maybe you should listen closer to what those parents are saying and worry less about outsiders picking on coaches. It's football, OldGuy and where I'm front every team has a leader and he is usually the coach. Sometimes parents do know what they are talking about. We played football. We are parents.

I get where you are coming from C6HO-83, but the truth is the previous coach really wasn't all that successful by your definition in his stint prior to CovCath. I agree it was a bad hire, as he was unprepared for what was in store for him. He has seemed to recover nicely and I wish him nothing but the best now and in the future.

So how other than enjoying, watching, and attending the football games, how do I have more in it than I will admit? As most know, my favorite sport at CovCath is Baseball followed by Baseball and well Baseball. Basketball would be next, followed by Football!

Again if you have a concern/problem request a moment of one of the coaches time, I am sure they will be more than happy to speak to you!

Give the guy 4 - 5 years. If it isn't working, then MAYBE you look at a change. I don't think people realize what shape the program was in after thier last state title. They had a coach who knew he was leaving and didn't care what shape the program was in. Let the man have some time to put his stamp on the program.

I hope they win all their remaining games but either way, I'll be there rooting them on. I just won't be next to the parents.

  Guru, you are on a roll the last couple of weeks. You are having some serious fun stirring it up, aren't you?

At least Guru didn't drop the "mediocre" rating on the Colonels like he did this year's Bluebird squad.

Someone said they heard the "Park Hills Mafia" was meeting for some Wings and Beer later today!!!!
