Other than Scott will CovCath win another game?

If the Birds blow them out in the playoffs, all those good feelings about the regular season will be long gone....

I read your whole post...and as I said, I think the fact that they were able to bring a game down to the last play with Highlands proved that they aren't "light years behind the Birds".

Also, contrary to what you may believe, the Colonels did NOT play over their heads at Highlands. Personally, I think they played as they usually do. They start off a bit too slow, then really get going in the 2nd half. Had we been awake on the first play of the game, the outcome would have been different. Don't fool yourself into thinking we had some heroic game..we didn't. We will be back.

A blowout loss in the playoffs to the Birds will certainly show that; one game does not make a program!

If the Colonels even get to play the Birds again, then we will see.

Otherwise, still mired in KY mediocrity!

It appears the Bluebird faithful are trying to justify the closest game they have had in years. I realize it is only one game and if Cov Cath and Highlands played 10 times this year, the Bluebirds would probably win 7-8 of them. But is it so impossible that maybe, just maybe this game was close not because of how bad Highlands played, but because Cov Cath played a good game? It is going to happen, Highlands will get beat by a team that is better than they are on that night, not because Highlands gave the game away, and when it does someone better hide all the sharp objects in Ft Thomas.

I think the most fair thing to say was that it was some of both.

I didn't say that game "made the program". I was only saying they showed that they aren't "light years behind the Birds". Light years behind is getting blown up 61-0 by Highlands...not 27-20.

Doubtful since CCH didn't slow the Birds down much the first half it's a good chance they simply march down the field and score anyway. Of course, if HHS would have been awake on the first play of the second half it might have ended up a blowout too. Way to many "if" games can be played.

Nah, only if it occurs during the playoffs. Goal is first and foremost a state championship.

If you are considering the Colonels on par with the Birds, then they have re-established the program no doubt.

My contention is that that one game doesn't put them in the same breath as Highlands, especially after needing a come-from-behind victory to defeat an average Beechwood team, a loss to AA NCC, and a 4 point win over a .500 Dixie Heights team.

I am reserving annointing the Colonels as "back" until I see how they perform against St. X and in the playoffs; there is still much work to be done.

If the Colonels are able to play into the 3rd week of the playoff's, then that is a sure sign that if not back they're getting close. For them to play in Ft. Thomas again this year means they have beaten a very talented Johnson Central team.

The 5 -4 record with the type of loss that Ryle was, and the loss to NCC definitely says that they were not back to the levels expected in Park Hills. However, if they are able to play Highlands again, no matter the outcome, it says that real progress has been made.

Excellent post. A victory or perhaps even a highly contested close game to the wire against St. X this Saturday will also be evidence that the program has moved up a level from the past two seasons.

I wasn't trying to say that the Colonels are "back" as of yet...but I do think they're much closer than they have been for a good while. I will say , again, that given the fact that they are playing with underclassmen starting in a lot of the "leadership" positions, they have managed to come up with some important wins, if not only for the sake of proving to the youngsters that they do have the ability. Yes, there have been some defeats mixed in there too, but I don't think, at least personally, that many of the games' outcomes have been that much of a surprise. I think the potential that this team has exhibited in this season is exciting a lot of the people who follow Cov Cath's football program (even those who follow from the Highlands community), and I think they have got a valid shot at some good playoff games.

All that aside, "back" or not, just wait until some of these sophomores are juniors and seniors.
