It's hard to dispute the truth. It should have mentioned thar the people of Ft. Thomas really want to be part of Cincinnati but they won't accept them.

 

Nothing to dispute in the first sentence, which is true. Overwhelmingly white, city is safe and students attending HHS or Newcath are the only truths after that so why bother disputing?

I always say, "Cincinnati"....Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky are like they're own little state. Nothing like the rest of KY, and nothing like the northern parts of Ohio.

I live in a small town in central KY, but when someone ask me where I am from I say the name of the city, I don't say central KY.

Its just always seemed to me that when someone from Alexandria, Newport or any other town in that area are asked where they are from they say Northern KY. It's almost like they are embarrassed to say they are from just plain ol' KY. Not a big deal at all, just something to get on here and discuss.

During my early BGP days, I made a near fatal mistake. There was a football thread about "NKY running backs" or some such similar topic. I dared to post in it about my school (my county is the "bump" between NKY and Louisville). I was thoroughly laughed at and admonished. :lol: I never made such an error again, even though, at the time, there were no categories that my school really fell in.

Having lived the first 18 years of my life in Fort Thomas having parents who still reside there, I can assure you the people of Fort Thomas have no desire to be "part of Cincinnati," as you suggested. While it's true that Cincinnati has great prep football, chili, ice cream (Graeter's) and hospitals, there's not much else that's good which can be said for Cincinnati. It's really a shame.

 

On a related note, when people here in North Carolina have asked me where I'm from, I used to say "Northern Kentucky, very close to Cincinnati." I stopped saying this, however, when my reply was met with comments like "oh, the city that had race riots a few years back," or "is it true Cincinnati is really racist?" on more than a few occasions. Now, I just say "Kentucky." I can promise you that a lot of people over here in NC have a much higher opinion of Kentucky than Cincinnati, if nothing more than because of the basketball!

 

Now, perhaps the folks in Ft. Thomas would like to be part of Indian Hill, but that's another matter...!

Jbwill - I have to disagree with your assessment of Cincinnati. The race issues that once effected the city are, for the most part, a thing of the distant past. The city now hosts many multi-cultural events and gatherings. It has a lot to offer these days -- although the city/county govt. is still its own worst enemy. Personally, I always identify myself as being from Northern Kentucky, first; then from the southern suburbs of Cincinnati, second.

I can't stand Cincinnati. Especially downtown. I loathe going there.
