I don't doubt his "right" but I have grave misgivings concerning his motivation.

I saw something this week about this guy and the rules he established for his "church". Definetly cult-like. Communication with families is prohibited unless permission is granted stood out.

 

I'll see if I can find it.

I'll pray he doesn't burn their Book. Its their Book and to burn it shows a huge disrespect to them. But I also see where the Pastor wants to do something for 9/11, but he errored in this choice.

Particularly when the church right next door is going to hold an interfaith prayer service. Talk about the two extremes.

It wasn't ignored by everyone, just that no one commented on it. I thought that it was an excellent post.

I think a bunch of bikers should show up with fire hoses and give their little bigot-barbecue a good dowsing.

The good pastor has said he is going to cancel the burning because the Imam is going to move the center in NYC. Imam says that's not what he said.

IMO, this statement rivals the statements of those who condemn all of Islam based on the actions of a few. The burning of the Quran, if indeed it does happen, speaks nothing about Christian tolerance. It speaks only to the ignorance and intolerance of this small group of redneck hicks. With all due respect, your statement is a gross hyperbolic over-generalization. jmo.

I really think it's two different things you're comparing here.

No one expects the same tolerance in other countries, especially religious tolerance.

Why not? I don't believe in doing things on purpose to incite someone, I think this guy is a fruitcake. But why is that muslims and middle easterners think it is ok to desecrate christian symbols and symbols of other countries, but it is the ultimate insult to do the same to them.

 

The "do as I say, not as I do" mentality is looking to be America's mantra now, not the other countries'.

I disagree with this. It is not the US mantra. What I hear from people is that you are welcome to come here legally and you are free to follow your beliefs, but it is not our job as a nation to change to fit your beliefs. We do not believe in do as I say, that would be the other nations.

 

 

We are founded on the principles of religious tolerance.

We were founded by rugged individualists, who had christian origins and beliefs. Who fought for what they believed in. Like the freedom to worship as you wished.

Not to mention, the very core of Christianity is violated by intolerance in this manner. It's a double whammy bad deal for this American religious leader to propose and promote this. Personally, I can't find it in myself to call him a Christian. And frankly, considering he's ignoring the potential danger he will place American soldiers, missionaries and citizens abroad in, I question his patriotism.

I agree with you here. The guy is a nut case.

Jesus said, "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God's."

It's not our government's job to turn the other cheek - ever. One of the positive aspects of separation of church and state is that in decisions made regarding our country it is a responsibility to protect its citizens.

Our government should uphold this insane guy's right to burn the Quarans because he is within his rights here in this country.

Our government should not tolerate if a single Muslim retaliates with an act of violence in response to this protest because it is not their right to respond that way.

I wish it wasn't a church doing the burning.
