Dale will even tell you straight up, "Each Highlands team stands on the shoulders of the great teams that stood before them", thats what makes Highlands a great program. You have been very vocal about being concerned over comments made on here about comparing this yrs team to last yrs team. I certainly dont want to go there, because it wouldnt be fair to say that HHS ranking last yr came from one yr. It came from close to 100 yrs and 18 other State Champions. Go Birds 20n10

I was referring to the two-year contract... Manual and Highlands actually played each other in 2009, the year that HHS was ranked highly. I wasn't talking about this year; the teams played last year as well. Sorry I didn't make that more clear in my original post.

 

And I agree with you 100% about the importance of the history behind these two programs. It's not every day programs with the storied history that both Highlands and Manual have play each other in KY, and it's kinda cool when it happens. Add to that the part about both schools being outstanding academic institutions and it makes for a great two-game series!

Highlands wins at home. I really do not know what to expect from Manual this year with a new coach and new west coast offense. It is tough the first year for a new coach, especially after following a long tenured coach, to get his plan implemented. I am looking forward to a much improved and tougher Manual team. I believe this game will be closer than predicted here and would not be suprised by the upset. I say Highlands by 7.

I believe the biggest factor in this game is that it is at Highlands. That being said I think Highlands will take this one 31-14.

But do the kids really understand this? It's obvious that the comparison's to last year's team are a sore subject and it's unfortunate for these talented kids to even sense that they're team is being compared to last year's team, but inevitably all of us fans look at the team before as a barometer for measuring strengths and weaknesses. To me, there are no weaknesses in this team. Every year, Bluebird fans have this nervous anticipation that the bottom is going to fall out. I've seen this just in the past few years with the QB position starting with Guidugli and the comparisons to Cecil saying Guidugli didn't have the speed or running skills. He proved us wrong in all facets of his game. Then came Bardo and the concerns after the first couple games of him overshooting receivers. People immediately started comparing him to Guidugli and his memorable State performance. Now this team will again have to suffer through the next couple weeks in the shadow of last year's team until they start making new memories for the fans. All will quiet down and we'll all be able to sleep better at night knowing that this team is the real deal and will more than likely bring home another 5a State title. Then the process will again repeat itself.

I am hoping also.

 

Reasons:

1. They are in St. Xavier's district and I like seeing their district teams doing well against opponents outside their district.

2. I know kids on Manual's team.

3. I respectfully enjoy seeing Highland's get beat by Kentucky teams. (This is not a knock on Highland's players, fans, coaches, northern Kentucky football, or anything else, just a respect for the program).:thumb:

I just want HHS to lose a game this year, don't care who. They are getting closer to our streak than I'd like.
