No one ever questioned his ability to play football at the D1 level. Some just question what position these scholarships have been offered for and what position he will excel at the most. The kid is huge and pretty athletic so obviously he can play somewhere D1, we just dont know what position yet and I think after a few games this season we will know much more about his projectability.

By saying, "he is good, but not a D1 QB" when talking about a QB is not questioning his ability? It is a disclaimer, saying one thing positive so as to not be attacked then following it by a statement of disbelief. Will he play QB in college, I have no idea. Just like I used before, people said on here and other places that Lorenzen could not be a QB in the SEC, was that not questioning his ability? There were comments like, "He should be a lineman", "He could play other positions, but not QB". Are those comments that sound like people have confidence in his ability? Did people take offense to those comments?

I am a Highlands fan and this has nothing to do with liking Pat Towles better. Zeke Pike is first and foremost an athlete with a very good body type that Division I coaches drool over and that is why he will be recruited and will end up with someone paying his way through college.

Simon Kentons DJ Rabe has just has much athletic ability and size as Pike seems like he should be getting D1 offers to.

We all hope he does well. Can we not question whether we think a certain athlete will excel at a particular position? We didnt quesiton his character, we brought up the debate on what position he would play at the next level and why. Before I make an educated opinion on his chances at QB at the next level I would like to watch some of his regular season games. Especially when they play Highlands. Then Ill go from there. Fair enough?

So, let me make sure I understand what you are saying. He will perform better when he has pressure vs. no pressure? Is it safe to say you were not there last Thursday? You make it sound like he will be better throwing the ball while dragging someone than in a 7o7 situation with no pressure whatsoever. Head scratcher?

 

What I am saying is he is more elusive than you would think and he is tough to tackle. So when most QB's would be laying on their backs, he will make a play. That is one of the toughest things to defend - a QB who can buy time for receivers to get open. I hope that helps clear things up for you. Let me know if it doesn't and I will give it another shot.

People have made obsevations where his actions on the field were not always favorable but it didnt leave the field of play.

And then off people went on the tangent that resulted in the "this isn't about Highlands" post instead of a thread congratulating Zeke for the offer. I hope you don't plan on doing the same every time another thread is made about Pike getting another D-1 offer. Even if there were some posters questioning whether he had D-1 abilities (most questioned whether he was a D-1 qb in light of the fact he has yet to take one snap as a varsity high school QB), I really don't see the reason to rub those few posters' noses in it. :madman:
