Seen him throw recently. Here are some of my observations:

 

Holds the ball in a correct pre-pass position, meaning holds the ball below his throwing ear with the ball tilted away at about 45 degrees. This tilted position means he has his wrist cocked in prepass, this eliminates the need to "set" the wrist once he starts his throwing motion. The proper position is critical to be accurate consistently. Plus, his shoulders are relaxed and at his side but not touching his side.

 

The next thing he does well, is that he leads with his elbow on his throw. When he throws he keeps the ball between his ear and his elbow. Doing this eliminates a slashing motion, a motion were the ball comes around the body. A slashing motion is another common mistake that young qbs make and causes throws to be low and off the mark. Having the elbow lead the throw and keeping the ball in the "ear tunnel" (area between elbow and ear) allows the arm to be in the most powerful position and to use its full strength because you get full use of the tricep muscle.

 

Thirdly, when he throws he extends up and out. Doing this allows him to throw the ball accurately with pressure coming at him.

 

 

All of these things coupled with his size and athletic ability it easy to see why he is getting so many offers.

Actually it is just the opposite. It prepares you to perform under pressure because the correct motion eliminates variables in the throw.

I don't think Pike will be as good as former Dixie player Doug Jones. Jones was a beast when he played!

How many do they have listed? The Gators show a strong preference at FNL for guys they really, really, want. He also may be a late invite, I know they had a couple of big name guys cancel in the last few weeks.

An update at Noon said that he had arrived in Gainesville and would be participating in FNL. It's on Florida's Scout board. Update was given by Jason Higdon. I guess that settles the "I wonder if he's really going down there" debate.

That is correct. That is where i got the information to begin with. For those that don't pay much attention to recruiting, Friday Night Lights is the premier camp for high school players to attend. This is big time.

As far as a college teams camp, I agree, UF does it better than anyone IMO. But it's only a UF thing, so I can't say that it's the premier camp to attend in the country. It's always loaded with great players, though this year alot of top guys are not going.

The camp is not used as much to recruit the seniors, but more to recruit the Juniors. You are correct that this is an invite camp and Florida as of right now already has 12 commits and the rest of their recruiting class is all but wrapped up. I have been a member of the scout site fightingators.com and a lot of top prospects for this year have other team events. The Gridiron Kings 7 on 7 competition in Orlando and there was a 7 on 7 tournament in Talahassee (Imagine that). For Pike to get an invite to this event says a ton. I could see big offers coming for him.
