I am told that the arresting authorities - the state excise police, according to the cited article - travel around the state on the weekends looking for underage drinking at college football games (including ND Stadium), private parties, etc., to make an arrest quota imposed on them. In these situations it kind of makes you wonder about the concept of probable cause.

I'm sure the "state excise police" is similar to the Kentucky ABC. They saw (or heard) the party & went to break it up. The loud noise, alcohol, etc. gave them probable cause. It's not an issue.

 

The kids who got arrested will pay a fine - probably like $200. They'll plead guilty, pay their money, and maybe do 20 hours of community service. I'm sure BK will make them run a few miles, and that's that.

My guess is the young man from Ryle whose father is in law enforcement, will be harder on his son than the coach, school or court is!

 

I doubt it.

College football players shouldn't drink anywhere, anytime. College students, I feel the same way.

Sounds kind of unrealistic to me too. College is a time for learning and experimenting. To me, drinking is a big part that for many students. First time out of the house and on their own, if drinking at a party is the worst these kids ever do then their parents should be relieved.

This does show some lack of control by the program. Maybe they should make underage drinking a NCAA violation and hold the kids responsible for themselves. "It's all about Character "

FIRE THE COACH! An OBVIOUS lack of institutional control! And don't let Father Flannigan just give them 3 Our Fathers and an Act of Contrition! Seriously, all this proves is ALL colleges are a microcosm of society and NO institution is above these type situations. :ylsuper:

 

Can only imagine the attack that would be bestowed upon Coach Cal if this would have happened at UK, but BK gets not barely a mention in this thread. Interesting.

Seriously?... Maybe he didn't know about the party, wasn't invited, out of town or like you said, chose not to go. Who knows, but to say that "the Bluebird had his mind right," because he wasn't there, is a little over the top; don't you think? I am sure that he is a good kid but so is Tate; he and the others just got caught doing something that nearly all of us did in college.

Agreed. It is unfortunate but it happens on nearly every college campus, ND has never been excluded from this. But i think it is more than arrogant to say "the bluebird had his mind right". As AUSCAR27 said, he could have been anywhere....Kids make poor decisions, this apparently wasn't his night to do so. I foresee a slap on the wrist and a minor speed bump in Kelly's inaugural year at ND. This also may be a wake up call for many of the student athletes at ND.

If you can't keep a group of new incoming freshmen in line when they've been on campus all of two to three weeks then you probably don't have the control you need or you just don't see that as an issue that could possibly affect your program.
