First let me say I like coach Code. But to just throw out wins and loses as proof of a job well done by anyone is a poor judging tool. 18-11 looks good, but should they have gone 25-4. They did beat a Mason County team last year, I believe Mason had three starters, or at least top players, out that game. Won the AIT, who did they beat. As to all the open coaching positions, what do you do when your coaches leave or retire, which I know is the case in some of the positions. What does your record as an assistant say except you were helping a decent coach with some good teams. Maybe there is more to it than just the numbers. I see comments on here from time to time supporting a coach, and that is great. I have yet to see anyone in support of a coach add that they want him over the coach they have at their school. Which leads me to believe that he's good enough for us, but you don't want him to coach your successful program and replace your successful coach. If a coach is so great why aren't you calling for the head of your coach so you can get the coach your praising and supporting. I wish coach Code much luck and success, but it's easy to stand on the outside and and pass judgment on someone else. Expectation by the school is also something that coaches must contend with.

You take a shot at the AIT, and while it's not the tourney it was 40 years ago when it was the premier tourney in the state; they still had a pretty nice field with two teams that won their regions, along with the aforementioned Mason County, and Cov Cath & Brossart that both defeated the Camels?? Not exactly the "Stinking Creek Invitational"??

 

Bottom line is Code was turning a program around that was horrible when he took over, and the kids were buying into his team & defense first philosophies. He started winning again, despite upgrading Coach Reitz's All "A" schedule; and playing the kind of teams a school like CCHS should be playing if they want to improve. Shame he won't get to complete his work, and another good coach gets run off by the powers to be at Campbell County. Best of luck to the next "soon-to-be bad coach" they lure to Claryville!!

For those who are saying the AD might have had something to do with this or Bob Jones was a questionable AD. I think you need to re evaulate a couple of things. First of all, Bob Jones was a PART TIME AD at a HIGH SCHOOL when the MIDDLE SCHOOL had a FULL TIME AD. Bob Jones had already put all of his days in probably in the middle of to end of basketball season. Bob Jones did a great job for the athletic programs at the high school and I think if you would ask any coach you would get the same answer from them. I also do not think Bob Jones had nothing but support for Coach Code. Sooner than later there will be some stability in the Campbell County athletic program.

It makes you wonder what is going on when so many teachers are getting pink slips in the biggest district in NKY. Perhaps there is something wrong up top.

There is a lot of talk of who was responsible for letting Code go, myself as well. Please confirm this for me. To fire/let go of a coach from a public high school in the State of Kentucky you must receive 2 out of 3 votes to be let go or hired. These 3 votes usually come from the AD, High School Principal, and someone from the school board. So if Jones was let go two weeks ago and didn't get a vote, are we to assume that the vote to let Code go had came from the Principal and a Board Member (Strong, etc.)? Just trying to figure out who is making these awful decisions so the blame can be given to the right people.

I have never heard about the 3 vote system.

 

I am very very very new to Campbell County but didn't they revamp (?) the athletic programs about 5 or 6 years ago and get rid of a lot of coaches? My understanding was this was from central office as well, not during Mr. Strong's tenure.

I think you miss understood StickerMann, first, I copied what Armsrace had posted. He posted that the first year Camels were 18-11. That is where I got the reference to the 25-4. Each equals 29. Please read carefully. It was just a number, I did not say I thought they should have gone 25-4. If you would, bold in the comment where I proclaimed they should have been 25-4. If you read closer you will see I asked a question trying to make a point that a win, loss record does not make a coach. I'm just saying wins and losses isn't a real good way to judge success. I meant for my comments to be general and not a shot at any coach. I believe success is measured by post season, who you beat and who beats you. Regular season games are no more than building blocks for the post season in my opinion. I did know they were 15-10 last year, if for no other reason, Armsrace had that posted as well. I have never taken a shot at Coach Code or any other coach at Campbell Co., or any other schools coach. I don't because I try to have a little class and integrity as Plato referred to. When you are the largest school in northern Ky. and you go for as long as Campbell has with not much results in your major sports, expectations start to creep in on everyone. The only comment I remember making, was in a prior post, to the point that, how does the largest high school in northern Ky. hire three first time head coaches. Football, basketball, baseball. Why can't they draw more experence? I have never discredited any of them or their abilities though. I may have mentioned that I don't care for the slow down game in basketball, but if you win with it, more power to you. My point was so many posters on here know what's best for other people and that makes me wonder would they be as supportive if it were their school. I myself have not formed an opinion about Coach Code. 18-11 his 1st year, .621 winning, 16-11 his second, .592 15-10 his third, .600 I think it's a little unfair to say he is or isn't doing a good job after three years of coaching. He has been pretty consistent with his winning %. I believe Coach Code will continue to coach, and I hope he will be successful. I do not believe Coach Codes three years at Campbell Co. will define him as a coach, at least I hope not. The only time I have seen the term " bad coach" used on here is when you used the term in your reference to "the next bad coach". It could be an expectation thing I as said before. The one thing that doesn't get mentioned much is talent level, size and speed. You have to have some of all three to be successful over the long haul. If your missing one part, you have to make it up somewhere else.That is not a shot at the talent at Campbell Co. just pointing out what's needed for any coach anywhere over the long haul. You know the old adage, careful what you wish for. Their may be some that wish him gone, that may wish he were back. I don't care who comes to Campbell County, it is not going to be a cake walk. There is no 3 vote system. The reality is if a person does not have tenure in a district they can be let go without any reason. If that person wants to appeal the decision they can, but will probably lose anyway. This is especially true in extracurriculur positions. Most schools tell their coaches that they are on 1 year contracts and basically you can be let go at anytime. Not really fair but that is the facts.

I don't believe Bob was physically let go 2 weeks ago. They asked him to retire, he said he would next year, than they "told" him it was going to be at the end of this year from what I hear. So he may still be lingering around the school. Not sure if he would be one of the 3 voters if this is actually the policy?

Firing a coach falls (by law) under the principal. However.............the principal does report to the superintendent. and in thsi district would not make a move without his 100% blessing......................................................................And yes this is a ridiculous situation unless there are facts we do not know about.

This is what I have heard. The School Board had no say in these matters with all of these coaches. The Principal and Superintendent made these decisions. These two have never attended any Fast Pitch Games,Baseball Games, Soccer Games(boys or girls), Track Meets, Swim and Dive Meets, Golf Meets, Cross Country, and I am sure that I have left somebody out.

 

They think they know what is going on with their sports programs. The High School administarion is too busy eating lunch together, after one of the office workers runs out everyday to pick it up for them. What is up with this, is there a liabilty here if something happens to the employee getting their lunch? Is it fair to the rest of the staff that they have to eat in the cafeteria?

 

Maybe it is time that parents start to question what the Administration and Superintendent are doing behind closed doors.

 

Another FYI, rumor says the AD is retiring, it was decided to let him go. The AD was parttime, but he gave them more hours than he should of have. Once again another loss for Campbell County Sports. Some good coaches are not being hired back and this is the Principal and Superintendent's doing, while other can have continous losing seasons and just go through the motions and keep their jobs.

 

I wonder, if staff is going to be reduced up at the Central Office? It seems that they have a chief for everything. Maybe we can get rid of the dead weight up there.
