May 4, 201016 yr It could have easily been done at one time, because of the support Christianty had. It did not because these same people believed that freedom was God given and individuals had the freedom to choose. Unlike the liberals in this country who if not openly, but quietly hate religion and would take that freedom from us. All other freedoms would fall one after another as people would think that freedoms are government granted, since they no longer believe they are God granted. Or maybe you would prefer we adopt the Islamic faith and have no tolerance what so ever? The liberals have tolerance for a religion that offers no tolerance. You know I've finally got to say that I'm pretty sick of this painting of "liberals" as you call them being against Christianity. To some I am a liberal. But I am first and foremost a Chriistian. Just as I do not paint all Fundamentalists as David Koresh or Pat Robertson, I would love it if people did the same for their counterparts. As to the painting of Liberals as non Believers in God's role of freedom, you are either undeducated to the matter or misinformed. Check out the bios of such people painted as liberals like Dr. Martin Luther King, Clarence Jordan, Oscar Romero and Dietrich Bonhoffer and get back with me. :irked:

May 4, 201016 yr On Morning Joe, this point was brought out and I think it is fair for discussion. If Christianity in this country pushed for the treatment of women as they are in Islam, what would be the treatment of Christianity in this country? Would it be the same tolerance level that this country gives to Muslims? Why does Islam seem to be getting a free pass from this President and the Democrats on the oppression that the Islamic faith puts on women? Much of the oppression is more cultural than religious based.
May 4, 201016 yr About three years ago I put up my list of church involvement . . . not as bragging, but showing that regardless of how liberal I am percieved to be I am also a deacon and SS teacher.

Political correctness, the want of big government, higher taxes, the ACLU creating make believe rights and trying to take away others. The agenda of Obama and his close associates are not something I want or need. I see some things that need to be changed, but I do not need the changes that Obama wants. The transformation that he wants leads people to be lazy and dependent on government. Look at the European countries, particularly Greece, the people want all that vacation time, high wages and early retirement. What is it getting them, nearly bankrupt countries. And with some of our social programs we are getting close ourselves. Nothing wrong with good wages, vacation time and retirement, but government mandating all this leads to government dependency. Let people earn their high wages by showing their productivity. Do away with Social Security, at least for younger workers, and they can build their own retirement. Then they can retire when they think the time is right. Then they will not have to worry asmuch about the government going bust and cutting their benefits. The government getting out of these areas will be less likely to get into a financial mess. Edited May 4, 201016 yr by bballfamily added comment

May 4, 201016 yr Let me try to help Hatz: LIBERALS, ARE NOT, BY DEFINITION ANTI-CHRISTIAN There are a great many of us who are very Christian. (Can you be very Christian??). You guys know what I mean. I was a conservative until I married into my wife's family. They are VERY LIBERAL by this board's standards, and one was a professor of preaching at Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, and the other taught there as well. Pray for me as they are now retiring from a church in WACO, TX and moving right around the corner from my house.

May 4, 201016 yr Okay, Pentecostal, no make-up, no hair cut, no pants. Southern baptist - no preachers, no deacons, no church leaders, no teaching of males above the age of 12 in a church setting. I also dont recall many women priest in the catholic church . . . Now if one of these groups came into secular power and enforced church law . . . you might have the same type of life you do in Shiria (sp) law countries. Extremely small percentage of Pentecostal women do this. Its an older tradition that they have strayed away from.

May 5, 201016 yr Author Let me try to help Hatz: LIBERALS, ARE NOT, BY DEFINITION ANTI-CHRISTIAN There are a great many of us who are very Christian. (Can you be very Christian??). You guys know what I mean. : I would agree that there are some great liberals who are Anti-Christian. I would question whether liberals that do not call themselves Christians are Anti-Christians. Tony Campwhatevertherestofhisname and Jim Wallis are Christians who are liberal and doing good things.
May 5, 201016 yr Just a couple of my thoughts on this topic. I would like to question if anyone on here bashing Islam actually knows anything about it? You know, actually have read the Koran, done some research anything rather than just watching Fox News. And 2, I would like to know how anyone could act like the Christian religion has never done anything like what they're accusing Muslims of? Open a history book, no actually don't they take out most of the stuff. Perhaps some research? My point is that it is insane to act like one religion is better than another, or that Christianity is a stainless religion. It's not, just like another other religion people have corrupted it and used it to push all kinds of propaganda. I also think that this country is great because of freedom of religion. If we take away the rights of muslims or any other group, we are going to drastically set ourselves up for failure in the future. Today it's Muslims, in 20 years it will be Catholics, 45 years Judiasm, and in 100 they will just outlaw Christianity and all other forms of religion. I think too many people think that protecting others religious freedom, is somehow taking away form theirs. No one stops a Christian from worshipping. Maybe the 10 commandments are out of public buildings, or organized public prayer isn't allowed at school, but that should not stop anyone from individually worshipping however they please.
May 5, 201016 yr I wonder if there is a conservative atheist? There are atheists who would consider themselves true libertarians; I've met them. But there's no place for them in the current state of American conservative politics.
