May 5, 201016 yr Author Just a couple of my thoughts on this topic. I would like to question if anyone on here bashing Islam actually knows anything about it? You know, actually have read the Koran, done some research anything rather than just watching Fox News. And 2, I would like to know how anyone could act like the Christian religion has never done anything like what they're accusing Muslims of? Open a history book, no actually don't they take out most of the stuff. Perhaps some research? My point is that it is insane to act like one religion is better than another, or that Christianity is a stainless religion. It's not, just like another other religion people have corrupted it and used it to push all kinds of propaganda. I also think that this country is great because of freedom of religion. If we take away the rights of muslims or any other group, we are going to drastically set ourselves up for failure in the future. Today it's Muslims, in 20 years it will be Catholics, 45 years Judiasm, and in 100 they will just outlaw Christianity and all other forms of religion. I think too many people think that protecting others religious freedom, is somehow taking away form theirs. No one stops a Christian from worshipping. Maybe the 10 commandments are out of public buildings, or organized public prayer isn't allowed at school, but that should not stop anyone from individually worshipping however they please. The bolded is a truly naive statement. Any religion feels that they are the true answer to salvation and it is encumbered on them to teach others about their religion and save those souls. So, the VERY NATURE of religion is to put their religion above others. IMO, there is no way you can be a Christian and NOT feel that way since 1) Jesus made it that way by saying HE IS THE ONLY WAY TO THE FATHER; 2) Jesus told us in the Great Commission to go out and make disciples of all nations. My post did not say take away their right to worship. My hope is that they can hear the love that Jesus has for them and chose to worship as Christians and Islam dies it's own natural death. The point of my original post came from a discussion on what is generally seen as a liberal station MSNBC by a show that I enjoy, Morning Joe. The guests on the show posed the question why does it seem that Islam is getting a free pass on the treatment of women when Christianity would NOT be getting that same free pass in today's society? I am not talking about 100 years ago or 400 years ago. I am talking about the present. Can't do anything about the pass but only can discuss and try to mold the future.
May 5, 201016 yr On Morning Joe, this point was brought out and I think it is fair for discussion. If Christianity in this country pushed for the treatment of women as they are in Islam, what would be the treatment of Christianity in this country? Would it be the same tolerance level that this country gives to Muslims? Why does Islam seem to be getting a free pass from this President and the Democrats on the oppression that the Islamic faith puts on women? They don't want their cars blown up, or there head cut off with a pocket knife. Who can blame them for that?
May 5, 201016 yr One key difference in America and the Islamic nations is that our country, while founded upon Christian principles, is not governed by the Bible. While the Bible provided a foundation for the creation of our laws and government, those laws and that government are separate. That's not the case in some Islamic nations. The Koran is their law. There is no separation. So, if our society was governed solely by the Bible, women might have to wear head coverings, may not be allowed to ask questions, except to their husband when they get home, etc. I think a comparison of the United States system of law and government to the Islamic nations that use the Koran as their only law would be better. Regardless of what some churches may or may not do, or what Christianity may or may not teach, our society offers abundant freedom to women. That's not the case in Arab nations and a big reason is the Koran and the fact that there's little to no separation between the holy book and their law. They're one and the same.:idunno: How can we make this country governed by the Bible?

Typical liberal response. I guess Democracy is no better than Communism and Fascism either is it? Geesh. :ohbrother:

I am usually with you on these discussions, and agree with you on Christianity, but Cats, Cats, Cats point is the pragmatic one, and that is that all religions believe they are right or why would crusades be sent out, or all infidels must be eliminated? It kind of comes with the territory. Religion has been the cause of more wars than any other reason in history and it continues to this day. It is hard to reason when both sides believe God is on their side. And furthermore, when they lose, it is because God is punishing them for losing their way. This holds true for all religions. If you are fortunate enough to be born in Paintsville, Kentucky you see things one way, and if in Baghdad you see it another way.

So, if you have an Islamic friend in your life, you would never talk to them about the love that Jesus Christ has for them and just let them continue on with their life never knowing Jesus?
May 5, 201016 yr So, if you have an Islamic friend in your life, you would never talk to them about the love that Jesus Christ has for them and just let them continue on with their life never knowing Jesus? I know where you are coming from and, but I am sure we will differ here, and that is I believe at the end times all will be given the chance to acknowledge Christ is the Lord, and I do believe some will still not believe. Some Islamic folks don't respond well to pressure, just as some Christians don't. It is hard to just "switch over" after years of training. I honestly don't trust folks from other religions that too quickly are ready to convert.

I have a good friend who is a Muslim and would never think to bring up anything regarding Christianity with them. To them it's disrespectful, and I would feel the same way if it were vice versa.

I am not talking about 100 years ago or 400 years ago. I am talking about the present. Can't do anything about the pass but only can discuss and try to mold the future. I don't remember Jesus pressing Christianity down anyone's throat. Jesus instructs Christians to spread to Gospel, not to tell other people that they are stupid for their religious beliefs. Being intolerant of Muslims isn't going to convert anyone. Look at the Crusades, the reign of Mary I in England, or anyone else who has tried to establish their religion by force. You cannot make someone a Christian, and no one should be able to force their religious beliefs on another. We all have our beliefs and feel that our religion is the right one. But as far as humanity and the world go, it's to each his own and that has to be okay with you. Typical liberal response. I guess Democracy is no better than Communism and Fascism either is it? Geesh. :ohbrother: Communism has never worked because the government should never have that much power and common people always get the shaft. But let's not act like the REPUBLIC we live in does not have it's own problems. Is it the government I prefer to live in? Absolutely, that doesn't make it 100% perfect.
May 5, 201016 yr So, when Jesus instructs us to do that, you just ignore Jesus' directions to you as a Christian? I respect people and their beliefs and refuse to be that pushy "religious salesman" that disgust me so much.
May 5, 201016 yr Love these discussions and a chance to learn more about Scripture. Please show me what Scriptures have led you to the bolded conclusion. I too love to learn on the scriptures and enjoy reading them. The difficulty is I am not a "John 2:3 kind of person" , meaning I can not site each chapter and verse right on the spot. I admire people that can. I do also believe that scripture can be and is "interpreted" different ways by different people-somewhat like some of the posts on BGP. When I write "come here" for instance....there is no way to know the tone in which I have issued the statement. The response becomes as important as the command. (This is a bad example-so please don't grill me on it-just try to get the gist of what I am saying.) I guess in conclusion if it were so simple-Christianity-as the example we are both promoting-there certainly wouldn't be different sects-Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc. I get where you are coming from and am not trying to debate you on a subject matter that I know I am not worthy to go to deep on. Now if you want to talk about U of L or UK-I feel worthy of lighting you up there.
