Say it as loudly as you wish Tb&g, but it won't do any good. "You liberals" is just a vague, distant and often imagined peoples conceived in the minds of a few. You'll be dismissed as either an outlier or a fraud despite the authenticity of your response. No amount of facts or evidence will dissuade these people. It's in their best interest to avoid such things and stick to fanaticism, it's their forte.

Oppression is oppression. There is no "comparable" about it.

If one isn't willing to speak out against a religion's oppression even on an anonymous message board...

There may be restrictions within some of the Christian denominations, but you are free to seek out another denomination. Whereas in the Islamic countries you may be put into jail or put to death for trying to switch faiths.

Only because we have not allowed the religious community in this country to be the law makers. It is not becase our religion is so great it is because we do have the freedom to choose, which one.

It could have easily been done at one time, because of the support Christianty had. It did not because these same people believed that freedom was God given and individuals had the freedom to choose. Unlike the liberals in this country who if not openly, but quietly hate religion and would take that freedom from us. All other freedoms would fall one after another as people would think that freedoms are government granted, since they no longer believe they are God granted.

Or maybe you would prefer we adopt the Islamic faith and have no tolerance what so ever? The liberals have tolerance for a religion that offers no tolerance.

One key difference in America and the Islamic nations is that our country, while founded upon Christian principles, is not governed by the Bible. While the Bible provided a foundation for the creation of our laws and government, those laws and that government are separate. That's not the case in some Islamic nations. The Koran is their law. There is no separation.

 

So, if our society was governed solely by the Bible, women might have to wear head coverings, may not be allowed to ask questions, except to their husband when they get home, etc.

 

I think a comparison of the United States system of law and government to the Islamic nations that use the Koran as their only law would be better. Regardless of what some churches may or may not do, or what Christianity may or may not teach, our society offers abundant freedom to women. That's not the case in Arab nations and a big reason is the Koran and the fact that there's little to no separation between the holy book and their law. They're one and the same.:idunno:

The religious community was the lawmakers initially. Fortunately, and amazingly (considering human nature), they had the wisdom and will to construct a system that allowed the freedom of religion.

 

I don't agree with the insinuation that our country would have restricted that freedom at any point regardless of who was in power.
