May 5, 201016 yr So, if you have an Islamic friend in your life, you would never talk to them about the love that Jesus Christ has for them and just let them continue on with their life never knowing Jesus? I have several Islamic friends. If they wanted to talk about religion and beliefs I would be happy to discuss. If they are happy in their beliefs, no, I would not attempt to convert them.
May 5, 201016 yr Author I have several Islamic friends. If they wanted to talk about religion and beliefs I would be happy to discuss. If they are happy in their beliefs, no, I would not attempt to convert them. What about Jesus' instructions for us to do that? Just ignore them? Please take this as honest question and nothing else.
May 5, 201016 yr Key word is depicted. In this always love society, Jesus is depicted that way. How many pictures have you seen of Jesus overturning the money tables in the temple and whipping things with the cords? None. Because it does not fit into the image that people want to show Jesus in. IMO, a person needs to have a complete vision of who Jesus was. For example, Jesus said that He did not come to bring peace but division. Pitting family member vs family member. He also said that this world will HATE Christians because of Jesus. I agree. But, remember hundreds of books were deemed in appropriate for the Bible. For instance the Infancy Gospel of Thomas sheds Jesus in a totally different light than what anyone is use to. Read up on that one LBBC.:thumb: Hmm. Sounds a lot like Islam to me. Not quite following your point. Are you saying that Islam is the only religion that oppresses someone?
May 5, 201016 yr There are atheists who would consider themselves true libertarians; I've met them. But there's no place for them in the current state of American conservative politics. Why do you say that?

Are you saying that Islam is the only religion that oppresses someone? Did I say Communism was the only form of government that oppressed their people? Nope. Heard of Nazi Germany?
May 5, 201016 yr Did I say Communism was the only form of government that oppressed their people? Nope. Heard of Nazi Germany? Or Fascist Italy or Spain...
May 5, 201016 yr Did I say Communism was the only form of government that oppressed their people? Nope. Heard of Nazi Germany? Like I said, I couldn't follow what you were saying.
May 5, 201016 yr How would you consider Jesus' treatment of the Pharisees and Saducees whose version of their faith was obviously different than Jesus' view of what SHOULD BE their version of faith? Would you say he was pushy to them? Did he not treat them as they were ignorant and was very intolerant of their actions? I agree that you cannot make anyone a Christian either by force or a parent making the choice for their infant. Was to each his own okay for Jesus? And did He not tell us that the world will know Him via us? And btw, we have not done a great job in that. I will agree. But still doesn't mean that we stop doing what He instructed us to do. Not just by TELLING them about Christ but also showing them the Love of Christ. I believe he was yelling at them for the being the pushy religious types who were more concerned about believing the right thing and following than law than about loving everyone.

But he is being purposefully radical to gain their attention

May 5, 201016 yr Author I believe he was yelling at them for the being the pushy religious types who were more concerned about believing the right thing and following than law than about loving everyone. So, He was being push, religious types to follow what he was commanding rather than what he was commanding, to love people rather than follow the laws they had created. Style was very similar but substance was a big difference.
May 5, 201016 yr Author You see, here is the problem. Does Jesus really want me to HATE my father. No, of course he doesn't. But he is being purposefully radical to gain their attention O, I agree with you. Just stating that all of his messages were not "honey" messages that was stated previously. There were hard messages there too that had to be studied and understood along with the easy "honey" messages. Jesus was not just about saying what people wanted to hear and didn't offend anyone or cause them to feel disrespected. He did more than His share of offending and saying things that people didn't want to hear.
