They have a basketball team again. I suspect UK football will fade back into fan-obscurity. (Not to be confused with real obscurity--Coach Brooks built them a solid foundation.)

I would have to agree. They are spending time waiting on Cal to Tweet.

I think it is a true statement. Such is life in college athletics at most universities. There are very few to any schools whose commitment is evenly distributed between both football and basketball. You think Alabama cares who Anthony Grant is bringing in next season?

I saw the game. I thought Hartline looked bad. Newton looked okay. I thought Massosawki looked okay. Defense looked awful. Joker doesn't do much with the defense.

I agree. It is hard to give an accurate assessment because the offensvie line is still shaky.

The excitement has fully shifted to basketball. That happens when you have the "supposed" #1 program in the land (dig intended)....that said, the UK football fans I know are very apprehensive about the upcoming season, not knowing what they'll get with Joker-Ball.

I'm actually VERY excited about the upcoming season. I have always been a much bigger UK football fan than basketball. I think our schedule shapes up very nicely and IF we can get some mo going we could be looking at a step up this year. I am concerned about the QB situation, but I think Joker will make the right call at that position and I'm worried about losing the consistency that our O Line had last year. As far as defense goes, I'm always concerned about that, but I honestly don't thnk we will see a huge drop. I was a big Micah fan, but lets be real...he never really lived up to expectations and Lindley was nowhere near the same last year IMO as the previous two.

I heard Hartline was throwing tight spirals.....

It wasn't to the other team was it?....

I think the D will be okay. They return 7 starters, but did lose some key components. The QBs seem to be settling down and should be fine. I think that having a much improved WR corps will help them.

Im worried about the defense. The best lineman and only guy who provided a disruptive force on a consistent level from a line that didnt get much pressure anyway is gone (Evans will definitely play at a high level but he didnt seem to bring it consistently last year). With a shaky secondary, the cats will need to find a way to generate some pressure and Im hoping a senior Lumpkin, Taylor Wyndham and Evans will make a solid line and allow McCord or Cobble (or whoever steps into the other tackle spot) to get comfortable. Also gone is All SEC LBer Sam Maxwell and Micah Johnson. It will be interesting to see how the defense gels and who emerges to fill the voids.

He may be the biggest loss on the team. It really hurt the Cats not having him for the bowl game as he was a HUGE factor in defending the short pass and that really hurt them. I feel really good about Windham and Evans. I think McCord and Cobble will be solid. I do worry a little bit about the DBs as they will be young. But I am betting that the offense will be improved, especially given the emergence of Donald Russell and an improved WR corps.
