What New Music Are You Listening To?

I just picked up Megafaun's album Gather, Form & Fly. Their band is formed from former members of DeYarmond Edison - a band that included songwriter Justin Vernon of Bon Iver notoriety. It's a 2 year old album, but I just came across it, and it's definitely worth mentioning. I bought it last night, listened to the whole thing, and now I'm finishing up my third listen today here at work. Here's their performance of the song "The Longest Day" live on HearYa.com:

It's not new by any stretch of the imagination, but I am amazed at how many people I have introduced this artist to who have never heard of her, and that is a crime by commercial radio. Brandi Carlisl

Just as an FYI - all five band members of The National are Cincinnati natives. Lead singer Matt Berninger actually graduated from Cincinnati St. X with a friend of mine. I had a chance to meet him and drummer Bryan Devendorf once. They're both really down to earth and likable guys.

They're a band I've been meaning to dive into. I've enjoyed what I've heard in the past but just never bought any of their stuff.

I'm loving the new Fleet Foxes record.

In all honesty, I was always kind of "mehh" about most of the stuff I heard by The National. I didn't think their first couple of albums were much of anything special, and their third album, Alligator, was the first one that really impressed me to any degree. The album after that, Boxer, had some good songs, but I was a bigger fan of Alligator. Their latest album High Violet is really good though - REALLY good. I would rank it in the top ten released in 2010.

I need to go pick up the Fleet Foxes album though. I totally let that one slip my mind somehow, and I've been waiting for that one to drop since I heard about it in early winter.

I'm a big Radiohead fan... They were rumored to be one of the Bonnaroo bands this year, which probably would've pushed me over the edge to going. But I'm going to stick with Lollapalooza and hope for the best.

Can't go wrong with some Radiohead.

Is there a guy named Wagner in the group?

Yep. Nate Wagner's the drummer. Really good guy...and a fantastic drummer, for what it's worth.

I have been listening to "The Belle Brigade".

Not really the type of music I listen to typically, but I enjoy their sound.

Any R&B listeners (if they exist on BGP) need to listen The Weeknd.

And I will be in Gulf Shores, Alabama for the Hangout Music Festival next week seeing tons of shows, including Portugal. The Man.

I don't dig a lot of today's R&B. I love old school R&B.

In addition the girl in the pic needs to eat something and develop her booty.

Mumford and Sons, Grace Potter, and Neil Young new album is good.

I'm a big fan of all three.
