The Best Team Kentucky Has Played This Year?

Featured Replies

IMO, the UT team that KY molested by 30 , lost TWICE to Vandy , and barely escaped SD St. in the first round loses to the Big Red. UT has a history of being undisciplined and inconsistent. They are like a box of chocolates. I'd take the shooters from the Ivy over the "shooters" from Knoxville.

The same UT that beat Kansas whilst Cornell "almost beat" Kansas?

The same Cornell team that has losses to:

Seton Hall & 6-22 Pennsylvania?

I'd go with UT being the best team, but the win AT Vandy being the best win.

FWIW, Ken Pomeroy has Cornell sandwiched between UofL and Miss St.

43 - UofL

44 - Cornell

45 - Miss St

I think everyone is jumping on this Cornell bandwagon a little to hard.

Their stats and everything they have done this year has one big variable that people don't account for...they play against crappy competition most of the year.

UT was the best team UK played this season. Yes, UT had some bad performances but also had some awfully good ones as well (beating #2 UK and beating #1 Kansas). UK only lost 2 games, and UT was one of them. After UT, I am not sure who would be next, but I am not sold on Vandy being as good as their ranking.

After tonight, win or lose, I think Cornell will be the best opponent the Cats have played. I think they are better than UCONN, UNC, UL, UT, Vandy, UF, or Miss. St. Cornell can flat out shoot the rock. They are very disciplined, play very fundamental team ball, and even came close to ended Kansas' long winning streak at Phog Fieldhouse. Plus, their players can solve the Rubik's Cube faster than anyone else.

What do you think? In your opinion, have the Cats faced anyone better than the Big Red this year? I think not.

Let me ask this, other then the two tournament games how many times have you watched Cornell play?

Yes. Alabama, 71-67. St. John's, 71-66. NCAA tournament defeated Wisconsin, 87-69.

I really didn't know other than Kansas.

They also lost to Seton Hall by 10 and Syracuse by 15.

I believe KY wins tonight, but If Cornell jumps on the Cats early, it could be a white-knuckler.

Sorry, but UT doesn't blow me away.(Sorry, UT fans, bad choice of words). I still say Cornell takes the Vols.

MSU takes the Cats to OT twice. Barring unfavorable breaks at the end of each game, the Dogs win both. So, if Cornell is better than MSU, tonight's game could be a dandy.

Tennessee rolled MSU. Kentucky rolled Tennessee.

Hmmm.

Tennessee.

If you want to get into a big discussion about Cornell's schedule, the SEC, etc...its tough, IMO, because basketball is very much about matchups.

I don't think Cornell could have matched what Vandy did in the SEC this year. I think having to face far more athletic competition on a nightly basis would have resulted in more losses. At the same time, had Cornell and Vandy been paired in the tournament, I'd have probably picked Cornell.

Also, from UK's perspective, I'd choose to play Cornell over several SEC teams. Why? Because I think KY enjoys a far bigger athletic advantage over the Big Red than they do against teams like UT, Vandy, MSU, Florida, etc...I feel like athleticism is a must to beat Kentucky.

At the same time, the teams mentioned do not have the combination of talent, size, chemistry and skill to complement their athleticism that UK has. So, I believe Cornell would stand a good chance of beating most of them, especially in a one-game scenario.

It's all about match ups and in a game against UK, Cornell is behind the 8-ball. From a pure talent perspective, a UK loss tonight would be one of the biggest upsets in basketball history, IMO.

Where would Cornell finish in the SEC? In my opinion if they were in the SEC their record would be around 23-10 instead of 29-4. And the SEC is not even having one of it's better years.

They'd more than likely lose to UK, Vandy, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Florida, Ole Miss, and probably South Carolina and Georgia. They did sneak up on Alabama early in the season, though.

Cal is calling Cornell the best 12 seed in the history of the tournament.
