Has the Rhetoric Gone Too Far?

Featured Replies

Against the law is against the law no matter what side of the aisle. However, it is funny that the liberal crowd is crying fowl when they never made so much as a peep when GW was hung in effigy. The hypocrisy of the left is a bit hard to swallow. IMHO they are trying to energize their liberal base. This health care plan has not addressed the real issues . . . it is just a playground for the lefties pet socialistic agenda. That being said we need to voice our concerns at the polls not at the private residences of the members of congress and/or their families.

Where was the liberal outcry just last week when democrat congressman were getting threatened for NOT supporting the bill? Is the liberal media reporting the racial attacks made on the ® senator from Ohio for his non support?

The hypocrisy is overbearing.

When in the course of human events it becomes necessary............

Didn't you get the memo? The Declaration of Independence is not a valid source as regards anything in a healthcare thread. :sssh:

That's not what I said at all and you know it. Am I sorry that members of congress are feeling heat because of the way they voted? Not one bit. Am I sorry that this brother got caught in the crossfire. Yes.

What you said:

Addresses are public record. While I in no way shape or form condone vandalism or violence I have more then a little trouble feeling to much sympathy for any member of congress.

Show me where you addressed the Perrillo situation? Did you even know at the time it was his brother and not him or was it after the above post? You don't have to tell me what I do or do not know. I went by what you posted after my story that shared nothing about Congressmen being threatened but about a Congressmen's brother having his house vandalized.

I'm thinking this thread has maybe proven my title correct. :idunno:

If you go back to the original post at the first of the thread there was immediate notice:

First, let me say that I, in no way believe that the leaders of any party are purposefully inciting groups to react with violence.

And I finished with:

I think the heat needs to be turned down on both sides of the aisle or something catastrophic may happen.

But once again we are hearing blanket statements about "them" or "they do it to," as if it is "us" vs. "them" on every single issue. Sorry I started the thing. :isurrender:

Lets just hope that the rhetoric is not being intentionally cranked up in preparation for a flase flag event by either side.

Not sure about that incident but they are reporting today about Kantor's office taking a bullet.

REALLY???!! This is your response.

You make people in Congress uncomfortable at the ballot box, not by threatening their children and calling them and telling them you are going to kill them.

Anonymous phone threats is terrorism. Faxes with a noose on them - terrorism.

The Radical Right has become what they abhor.

With the exception of the "Radical Right comment I agree with you. In fact the history of radicalism would definitely go to the left. See Saul Alinsky, William Ayers, Black Panthers, Jeff Jones, Frank Davis, etc.

You know as well as I that neither side is innocent. Republicans have received similar threats now and in the past. Kantor had a bullet shot through his head quarter's window. Palin and Bush both had effigies burned.

For the record, Kantor was not any kind of a target. Someone shot a gun up in the air and on the way down it went through Kantor's window. But that is neither here nor there.

To say the Radical Right, I am talking about the fringe, is not terrorizing congresspeople is simply a lie.

And to say that the radical left is not terrorizing congress people is simply a lie also...

WOW! A lot of ridiculous things being said on this thread, and may be why others are acting out.

As HATZ stated:

"First, let me say that I, in no way believe that the leaders of any party are purposefully inciting groups to react with violence.

That said, this act has me concerned that the vitriolic acts of our leadership have inspired others to respond with "over the line" tactics"

And it wasn't long before the thread turned into a new direction, then some others, not all, just seem to attack someone who supports the other side of the isle and neither supports or apposed what is happening.

Back to what HATZ first mentioned, I don't think any member of congress purposely incited anyone, but going onto the Capital balcony and cheering on the crowd and all didn't help. But AGAIN, I do not think they purposely did this to incite groups to act with threats or violence.

But what Boehner said about Driehaus was not acceptable, and is irresponsible! Saying of Driehaus “He may be a dead man. He can't go home to the west side of Cincinnati,” Very poor choice of words there that could get some people going.

But publishing the addresses to any political leader and holding protests near (most) of their homes is not right! That Tea Party organizer who published the wrong address for Rep. Perriello said they would take down the wrong address only if they get the correct one? “If they would like to provide me with the address of Tom, then I’d be more than happy to take it down,” he said. “I have no reason to believe it’s not his house.”

And the other Tea Party organizer who posted Perriello's brother address said “Do you mean I posted his brother’s address on my Facebook? Oh well, collateral damage.”

Another one stated that they see no problem with harassing the families of these members of congress.

All of the above comments are way out of line and uncalled for!! However, I do not think those are the views of all of the people on the Republican side.

I mentioned above that "holding protests near (most) of their homes is not right", I think someone like the president is excluded as long as the protests are calm and civil. The president has so many people guarding him anyway, and there is such a large buffer zone they don't even see or hear the protesters. Again, this is for the president only, not his family, they should be off limits.

As far as crying foul when Bush was hung in effigy, when does free speech begin and or end? When safety is a concern? Again, he is not a member of congress, he had A LOT of people around him and usually a large buffer zone, I do not recall anyone in front of his ranch doing this? If so that would be going over the line, and i'm sure that person would be removed. Either way, I can guarantee you that anyone who burned Bush in effigy got a quick and thorough background check on them, and maybe even a visit by the Fed's which should happen.

Now someone called Jean Schmidt's office with threats.

I do not care what party a member is congress belongs to, threats, their home addresses being published, protesters showing up at their homes, and harassing their family members is way out of line. This could snowball and get very serious, and someone could end up getting seriously hurt, or worse. All of this needs to stop.

Death threats, bricks being thrown, and bullets through political offices is not how we do things in this country.

Lets just hope that the rhetoric is not being intentionally cranked up in preparation for a flase flag event by either side.
Sadly, it's a game often played.

Free speech has no end.

I had no trouble burning Bush in effigy. There were times I felt like doing it, too. Burning in effigy has been a form of protest since the times of Ben Franklin, when the Bush issue arose I posted an old clip from the paper in like 1805 where it was being done and decried at that time.

I also have no trouble posting addresses of congressman or their families on Facebook. There is nothing confidential or privileged about those addresses. When you hold office, you expose yourself and your family to a higher standard of publicity, if you don't understand why, read New York Times v. Sullivan.

If people made threats of violence or committed an act of violence, arrest them and prosecute them.

When government officials get so comfortable, on either side, that they are willing to ignore their constituents and do whatever they please, the only way to get them to think twice about it is to make them feel uncomfortable. I've got no trouble with that at all.

"A little revolution, now and then, is a good thing."

Please tell me one positive thing that can happen by posting addresses publicly. It can only be interpreted as a threat and attempt at intimidation. There are many other ways to protest without giving the car keys to the drunkards. I have lost respect for the Tea Party movement because of their recent actions.

Of course this garbage is wrong. But somehow I missed the uproar when Bunning was threatened a couple weeks ago. Can someone direct me to that thread?

To say one side is more apt to pull this stuff than the other simply goes against fact. Both sides have their radical fringes who are dangerous in my opinion. It just seems to me there is more of an uproar when it happens to one side.
